Question

Can't "put" files to remote server (server "test" works fine)

Dreamweaver CS6 website hosted on GoDaddy.  After 7+ years of successful development, I can no longer "put" pages to the remote server. I receive a "same - not transferred" message.  I have rebuilt the cache, rebooted several times to clear memory, spent two hours on a chat with GoDaddy and done numerous successful tests on "Site>Manage Sites>Site Setup>Servers>Basic

All with no results.

HELP PLEASE

"Same - Not Transferred" sounds to me like GoDaddy goofed up your FTP credentials and you no longer have the ability to overwrite files.

To test if that's the case...

Make a new blank .html page called TEST.html and see if it uploads
Make a small change to the text of the page and save

    Try uploading again

I'm willing to bet you are able to upload the "new" file and get the Same - Not Transferred error when you try to upload the updated version (no overwrite).

If that's the case, contact GoDaddy again and have them reset your permissions.

    @Jon Fritz II

Thank you for the input.  Created a "Test" file. Uploaded without issue. Made an edit, saved the edit and attempted upload.

    It uploaded fine.

I have discovered that even with the "same - not transfered" message in DW, changes to my website show up on IE but not Chrome.

I have since uninstalled and reinstalled both DW CS6 and Chrome. The problem still persists.

That is a known issue in Chrome, one of the reasons that I use Firefox for initial testing.

To clear the browser cache in Chrome, type the following line into the address bar

    chrome://settings/clearBrowserData

This will give you the following dialog to which you should lick the relevant button.

    Hello,

it's well known, that in all these cases you describe I'm not a friend of a detailed troubleshooting. To be able to be independent in all this things It is one of the reasons why I prefer an external FTP program. The difficulties with which you have to fight encourage me in this opinion, not least because we always search for experts, we don't charge a "jack of all trades".

To manage several websites or to upload my files and sometimes for the opposite way, for a necessary download from my server or to use a "a site-wide synch", I'm using FileZilla. It simply looks easier for me to keep track of all operations precisely and generate or reflect easily the desired tree structure.

Above all, FileZilla has a feature (translation from my German FileZilla) called "compare file list". Here it's possible to use file size or modification time as a criterion. There is also the possibility to "hide identical files", so that only these files which you want to redact remain visible.

And even if it means you have to install a new program, I am convinced that there is an advantage. Here is the link to get it and where you can read informations about how it works:

    http://filezilla-project.org/ and http://wiki.filezilla-project.org/Tutorial#Using_the_site_manager

Mac: Mac OS X (Use: Show additional download options)

    http://filezilla-project.org/download.php

Of course, you also need all the access data to reach your server and for MIME issues, you should contact your web host/provider.

    Good luck!

    P.S.

Since I use two screens, the whole thing became even more comfortable.
