Question

Cannot connect Dreamweaver Version 21.2 to the latest version of MySQL (MariaDB).

I am trying to use Dreamweaver 21.2 to develop production server-side (PHP) websites.  We don't really have control of the databases used by ISP's so I am trying to connect to the latest version of MySQL (8.1.2).  First, I had to download new menu items for server-side connectivity (Databases and Server Behaviors) which were removed by Adobe (????????) from the Dreamweaver CC product.  After loading the new scripts I tried to connect with the Window:Databases menu item.  When I attempt to Select from the available databases, I get an error (HTTP Error Code 404).  This error is generated from within the Adobe supplied PHP scripts MMHTTPDB.php and mysql.php.  The server is verified listening on port 3306 on localhost.  Everything but Dreamweaver seems to connect.

I was previously burned on the Muse product when support was dropped.  I decided to try Dreamweaver but the lack of server-side connectivity is a show stopper.  The removal of critical server-side menu items from Dreamweaver CC seems to indicate a move away from sophisticated website development.  If this is the case, I would like to get an honest answer so I can move to a working development platform before my annual contract renews.

Any help is appreciated - I don't think my situation is unique based on other forum comments.

The honest answer is that Dreamweaver is on life support only. Adobe is only maintaining it, but no longer developing it. Just like Muse, we can expect DW to be removed from Adobe's software lineup in the not so far future.

@BenPleysiermentioned Wappler - that would be a good modern supported replacement for visual database and server behaviours that DW used to be famous for a long time ago.

Dreamweaver is not worth your time, effort, or money at this point in time, in my opinion.

I suspect you are correct.  The lack of support and simple upgrades is an indication of Dreamweaver's future.  I was lured to Muse and enjoyed its brief life.  I thought Dreamweaver could help but the server-side issues are too much.  If I don't get this to work soon, I will have to move to another product like Wappler.  It appears Adobe is only interested in graphics.

Also worth mentioning.  Deprecated Server Behavior scripts will NOT work with modern servers running PHP 7 or higher.  That's why Adobe removed Server Behaviors from Dreamweaver.  They are no longer fit for use.

Do you know which version of PHP your server has?

MySQL (MariaDB) is version 8.1.2 as well as PHP is version 8.1.2.  We just can't control the ISP and if they go with a new version, we have to be sure our PHP interfaces work.  I am testing with a localhost server with both the test server and MySQL running on the development machine.  A far as deprecated functions, I am rather taken aback that Adobe is not documenting the warning you mention.  The instructions I have for interfacing with MySQL require the Server Behavior panel  to create a Recordset.  I cannot get the Database portion of the Window menu to connect to any of the localhost MySQL server.  I can't get past the database connection panel.  I believe the problem is in the scripts I mentioned in the original posts but I'm not informed enough to know better.

Have a look at this extension

https://www.webassist.com/product/mysqli

Wappler is the DMXzone-made Dreamweaver replacement and includes the best of their powerful extensions, as well as much more!

I have never been able to connect DW directly to my remote database because my hosting server doesn't allow it for security reasons.

I develop server-side apps on my local testing server (Wamp, Xampp or Mamp) with a local database.  Later I upload scripts to the remote server to ensure they work on that environment.

PHP & MySQLi Connection Script:

<?php
$con = mysqli_connect("localhost","your_username","your_password","database_name");

// Check connection
if (mysqli_connect_errno())
{
echo "Failed to connect to MySQL: " . mysqli_connect_error();
}
else echo "Successfully connected, happy coding!"
?>

<?php phpinfo() ?>
