In Dreamweaver CC 'm trying to create a library item of the navbar for a website, which can then be mass updated on every page.

But I can't even create the library item.

The manual page says:

1. In the doc window, select a portion of a document to save as a library item.

2. Select Tools>Library>Add Object to Library."

HOWEVER, Add object to library is grayed out.

How do I create a library item?

Hi Doc,

'Add Object to Library' menu item will be grayed out in live and code view. Hence can you please switch to Design view from View Menu->View Mode->Design and select the required text in Design view to use 'Add Object to Library' feature. This should enable 'Add Object to Library'.

You can rename the library name in Assets Panel which gets invoked once you select 'Add Object to Library' menu.

Kindly let us know if this works else will investigate this issue further.

Thanks,

Use server-side includes.  They're much better than proprietary Library Items which sometime fail.

Includes can be used anywhere and because they work on the server, there's no need to re-publish your entire site when you make changes.
