Change Contents without refreshing

Hi there...

I would just like to know, how can I change content in my page, for example: If I click a hyperlink that should just change a picture, it should not reload the entire page, but only the new image. OR Example: If I click a hyperlink, it should change the contents of a certain table, without reloading the page...? Hope my question makes sense...
