Change default file from index.html

I do not know where else to ask, so I'm having to ask here.

I do not want index/html to be the file that opens when a user goes to a site.  Instead I want the file/Doctors/doctor.html to open.

I have looked at .htaccess but ALL that using this gives me is 'file not found'.  Can anyone help me?  In case it is significant, the site is hosted on Godaddy.com.
