Code not showing in Design view and Design view text not appearing in code

Sometimes the html code does not appear in design or live view and vice versa. Regardless of which view I see or if I click on either side id Split view. Does this happen to anyone else? It does not always happen. (Mac Mini O/S Sierra 10.12.2) See illustration:

Can you try restoring preferences, and see if that helps? This behavior looks unusual to me.

Thanks, that seems to have fixed it, at least so far.
