Code view freezes when copy and paste tags

I have been using Dreamweaver for several years without any problems. By mistake I used ‘find and replace’ to make some changes. I now need to edit to those changes. In Code view I copy and paste a tag with a different tag. This works for about a dozen times then the code page freezes. I have waited up to half an hour, but it does not unfreeze. I have closed Dreamweaver, started it again, changes I had made are there. I then continue but this time I can only make fewer changes before it freezes. If I repeat the process, then even less changes can be made.

I have closed Dreamweaver and rebooted my laptop several times, again problem remains. I have uninstalled Dreamweaver and reinstall it, again problem remains.

If I go into ‘task master’ Dreamweaver help is open several times, I have tried ‘End Task’ but either the problem remains, or Dreamweaver help does not disappear.

I have tried looking on Google to find a solution but cannot find anything similar, probably because I am not asking the right question.

I am using Dreamweaver version 21.1 running on a Windows 10 laptop.

What have I done wrong or what am I missing? Any suggestion will be most welcome.

Many thanks

Peter

Hi @Peter Perfect Davis,

Sounds like you may have some code errors that need attention.  DW doesn't like code errors and is known to behave erratically when confronted with too many that can't be reconciled.

In the absence of any code errors, try Restore Preferences.  That fixes most problems.

Failing that, use the Adobe Cleaner Tool to wipe old apps from your system.  Restart your computer.  Reinstall DW CC.

Hope that helps.

Hi Nancy

Many thanks for your reply. It was most helpful.

I opened the file using Notepad++ and made most of the tag changes that I could see. When I then opened the file in Dreamweaver I was able to make changes to the few errors I had missed.

All is back to normal and Dreamweaver code view is not freezing.

Many thanks again.

Peter
