Command "Put" does not upload a file

I just transferred my old Dreamweaver site (CS3) over to Dreamweaver 2021.

All seems working pretty well as I'm getting used to the new version.. however, one issue:

For uploading files to my server… When I Command-click a file and choose "Put" in the dropdown menu, it tells me that it has uploaded successfully, but it actually does not upload or overwrite the older file already on the server.

As a test, I also have manually deleted the older file on the server, and it still won't upload the new file.

And here's what's peculair: With the local and remote servers in side-by-side, I can do a drag-and-drop of the file over to the remote server, and it works! So this is telling me that the connection is established - - or, I would think so.

Any advice, thanks much!

What you describe sounds like the files are uploading, but possibly to the wrong location.

It's not unusual for that to happen when switching versions of the program and accidentally leaving off the Remote Root Directory from your FTP settings, or accidentally creating a duplicate root directory (usually www, htdocs or public_html) and uploading to that duplicated folder instead of the actual site root.

Posting a screen capture of your Expanded Files window while connected to your server would show if either of those were an issue.

For whatever it's worth, let me update my comments… when I have been saying "Command>Put", I actually meant to say "Control." In essence, you hold Control, click the file to upload, and then choose "Put" in the dropdown menu. (I'm on a Mac)

Hi @Brian5C29,

To upload an open document, hold down Ctrl + Shift + U (for upload).

Select files from your Files Panel (F8) with Shift + click or Ctrl + click.

Connect to server and hit the UP arrow. See screenshot.

Yes, I'm doing just what you are advising, but this is exactly the step which is not working for me. I'm on Mac, I Cntrl click the file in my local window, and choose "Put." It responds "successful" but still, the file does not upload.

I have my local and remote windows side by side to compare the dates, and the date never updates on the remote server.

Bear in mind that I'm able to drag-and-drop files from my local window over into the appropriate folder in the remote window, and doing it this way works for me!! So this tells me that I have a good connection. I would assume this fact rules out possible issues with the browser cache, or issue with files going to "testing" server.

This error occurs, whether I use the Up arrow for the upload or if I Cntr-click the file and choose "Put" in the dropdown.

Can you click on Site-->Advanced--> FTP Log the next time you try to upload and see if there is anything being reported as an error that could be preventing the upload from happening?

My apologies for not reply to you long ago.. I need to fix how I get reply notifications 🙂

I watched the FTP Log when I attempted to put a file by Command-clicking>Put, but nothing appears to be an "error" in the log. (pasting the log below…)

Still very odd because I'm still able to drag-and-drop files over to the connected server's specific folders. The files do upload successfully that way, but what a huge hassle when I need to upload many different files into different folders - - I can't upload them all at once.
