Compare with remote does not complete remote download

I have long had this problem with various versions of Dreamweaver, including DW CC 2017, on several versions of Mac OS X. I know others have had it and support has been involved. But I cannot find an answer relevant to my problem. But I know Adobe must have addressed this!

Compare With Remote Server often works for me, using BBdiff. But then, sometime during a session, it stops working. When I check the FTP log, it shows that the file is still downloading. It never finishes and the remote-to-local comparison in BBedit never appears.

This problem occurs intermittently, at seemingly random times.

If I restart the computer, Compare With Remote starts working again.

    This is the FTP log message. It does not change until I do some other FTP activity.

    I just logged out and back in. The problem persisted. It only gets fixed then when I restart.
