CS5.5 unwanted reset

First, I'm an editor, not a developer/programmer, so please answer in very simple terms usable by the ignorant.

Windows 7 updated last night, unasked for and unwanted per usual, but this time it did sometimg to Dreamweaver.

The "put" operation (accessed via "Site" dropdown) no longer is accessible (it shows gray rather than black).

The right-side menu that once showed all files (pages, art etc.) now says "Local Disk" and will access file on this computer, but no longer has the buttons for refresh, connection, put and whatever the others were.

Phone support says they can do nothing for CS5.5 (funny, Adobe's still happy to take that monthly subscription payment).

This is a desperate situation. It's a business website sitting there without its update.

    That usually means you are trying to upload 1 level above your publicly accessible server root folder.

    Make sure you have the Root Directory field filled in correctly. It will usually be www, public_html or htdocs, but could be just about anything. Verify what you should have there with your hosting company.

    Are you sure you're using CS5.5? The oldest version available on a Creative Cloud Subscription is CS6.

    EDIT: Ah, there were CS5.5 subscriptions, a precursor to the Creative Cloud Service. Personally, I'd just switch to CC if the costs are similar. CS6 was better than CS5.5 and as a CC subscriber, you get access to that as well as all newer versions (CS6, CC, CC2014, CC2015 and newer).

    Your problem likely has little to do with a Windows update though. It sounds more like an errant click of the Files window dropdown menu may have deselected your site definition. If your site isn't selected, you won't be able to upload.

    In the top left of your Files window (go to Window > Files or hit F8 if it's not open) click the dropdown menu...

    ...and choose your site definition...

    You need to have a Site Definition selected in order for DW to have access to FTP credentials.

    It definitely is CS5.5, and it comes via subscription.

    The above sort of worked to get the Files window visible more or less correctly (not the same, but usable).

    But the ftp information had been wiped clean. Re-loaded that, and the Test function shows it as connected to Dreamweaver (and the ISP confirms all is well on their end). The "Put" function now functions but does not actually put, instead yielding this message:

    "Started: 6/14/2018 9:13 AM

    Zupdate.php - error occurred - An FTP error occurred - cannot put Zupdate.php.  Access denied.  The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem.   Make sure you have proper authorization on the server and the server is properly configured.

    File activity incomplete. 1 file(s) or folder(s) were not completed.

    Files with errors: 1

    Zupdate.php

    Finished: 6/14/2018 9:13 AM"

    Any help appreciated.
