Question

CS6, when "Putting" files from TEST to PROD, files are deleted from TEST?

My environment is setup pretty simply, both TEST and PROD point to the same place in the site configuration. I know they should be different, the problem I'm having is I accidentally chose to "Put" a directory of files and CS6 deleted the files instead of doing nothing as I would assume it should do since PROD and TEST are the same.

Is there a location where files are temporarily stored that I might be able to retrieve my work or am I out of luck?

Thanks,

Sorry to say, you very well may be out of luck. You're always safest having backup copies in various locations; hence, Dw's provision for multiple server connections.

Ideally, if you felt comfortable doing so, it may be worth a little bit of your time to get acquainted with Git - the latest versions of Dw include a fairly decent integration, which might give you some future-proofing for your files.

If you don't have time or feel the learning curve is too steep, consider creating/using a cloud storage service (DropBox, Google Drive, OneDrive, Box, Amazon, Creative Cloud, etc.) to store a working copy. This would give you the flexibility of being able to access earlier versions of a file, and access them anywhere you have an Internet connection. (Just always be aware of security/privacy issues and if you have any sensitive information saved in your files.)

Hope this helps! Make sure to press "✔ Correct Answer" on this post if this answers your question. Happy Creating!Anissa • @anissat

For your sake I hope you keep dedicated backups in the cloud or external drives.

My set-up is fairly simple too.  My test and production locations are different.  Separation is key when we make mistakes which we invariably do.

Thanks Nancy.

Doe Dreamweaver create a backup anywhere before it performs the FTP? I'm guessing no but it doesn't hurt to ask.

I've never seen an FTP process delete the original file...

DW doesn't backup or delete files.  Your local site folder should be on your hard drive.  If files get deleted from your hard drive then someone or something other than DW is doing it.
