css copy paste problem in Dreamweaver CS4

Having a problem in CS4 when I want to copy and paste things in my stylesheet.
Whenever I do ctrl +c to select a something the whole stylesheet gets selected. And that is not what I want.
Even is I want to copy something from an other css into the css I am working on it won't do the job.

Anyone having the same problem and found a solution?

    Correct answer

Forgive me as I'm new to DW CS4, but I may have a solution.  I encountered the css copy problem as well, but I turned off (unchecked) "Enable Related Files" (Edit -> Preferences -> General -> Document Options -> Enable Related Files).  I had to restart Dreamweaver, but this seems to have fixed the bug.

I've never used the "Enable Related Files" feature, so it's not a big deal to me - much less of a big deal than not being able to copy and paste.  At least it seems to be a stable work around to the "css copy paste" problem.

Hope it helps!  Let me know if this resolves the issue for anyone else.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm having this problem on my Mac OS X 10.5.6. Deleted config files, rebooted program, still have the same issue.

I will fill out the bug report form as well

    New information about bug...

Although I work entirely in php these days, I just had cause to open an old script with sections of php mixed with sections of HTML. When attempting to copy a line or character of php code, DW selects the entire section of php code but no more. At the same time, the arrows and vertical line in the side margin show the entire (DW) selected block of code.

...so it's not just the whole script that gets selected!

Oh; and another thing: for every user who takes the trouble to post about a problem on a forum somewhere in the big wide interweb, there are probably many dozens more who just accept the bug not ever dreaming that they might be able to influence a fix, or simply not being bothered to try and do something about it.

I reckon this bug might be more prevalent than you think.

Not to belabor the obvious, but it's important to realize that there are
many users who do not have these problems. Nobody posts to say "I have to
complain about not having this problem".

But to add insult to injury so to speak, I never saw this problem with any
installation of DW on G3/G4/iMac with OS going back to prehistoric
    versions....

I'm sorry but that is entirely irrelevant here. DW is a commercial product which is part of an expensive commercial suite of products which one can reasonably expect to work as promoted. I am quick to sing a product's praises at every opportunity where it might help sales, but that works both ways.

As I said, I develop apps myself so I understand very well the nature of intermittent bugs, but I also understand the size of Adobe's resources and the size of its turnover. I'm not impressed with a text editor that can't even cut and paste properly!

I don't deny that some people are suffering, but until a reproducible
pattern can be identified, it's like looking for a needle in a haystack.
There is probably some common feature, such as having a particular
program installed or service running in the background.

The Community Experts monitor the forums and provide feedback to the
engineering team. I'm pretty sure it has been reported before, but I'll
    report it again.

I'm afraid I don't have as much sympathy as you. I did a clean install of CS4 onto the latest OSX and this bug has been a problem from the word go. It is intermittent, but in my case that's 90/10% in the bug's favour. A quick Google on the problem shows that it's been around for many months and that many people are suffering because of it. When I have a customer report a serious bug I keep at the problem until I solve it - and there's always a cause. With Adobe's resources and turnover, they should be onto this one like a shot.

And another thing: why don't Adobe have someone permanently monitoring this forum for problems? They should take a leaf out of Talk Talk's books, who have a whole team of people scouring their forums looking for problems to solve.

Adobe will only see this if you communicate directly to them. This forum is
not the way to do that.

I'm having the same problem and it's driving me nuts. As a hand-coder I cannot work like this! I have raised a support case with Adobe and will report back if I get a response.

    Hi Antonia,

I have a very similar problem. If I highlight source code and then either press ctrl+c or use edit/copy a far larger amount of code becomes highlighted. In some cases the entire file is highlighted and copied. This is very annoying and is now causing major problems with productivity.

I run CS4 on two machines:
    1: vista ultimate
    2: XP professional
I have the same problem on both.

Adobe - have you any idea what may be causing this? I'm sure we are not alone.

Fill out the bug report form here: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
We should all do it. Maybe if they get enough they might actually do something about it!

Have you already raised a bug report? If so then there is nothing to serve by duplicating it, although as an app developer myself, I'm staggered that such a serious problem has not been addressed before now!

I'm having the same issue, too.

When on a .css file, the 1st click selects the entire page of code. When working on an HTML file I usually use split view and work in the code. Been doing it this way for years - since DW4 - with no problems at all. Now CS4 wants to expand the section on its own 1/2 the time. It's very annoying and makes copy/pasting blocks of code near impossible.

I'm on a Win XP Pro PC. CS4 Web Premium, 2MB RAM.

What's the deal? Is there a fix? Please help us Adobe, you're our only hope!
