I have been using an extention for many years with Dreamweaver that connects me to a MySQL database and allows me to create pages and so forth but the guy that created the extention has passed and it seems that the extention is no longer working and I can't get support. So the question is, since Dreamweaver no longer support it, what are people using these days? Are MySQL DBs no longer in favor?

Ray Borduin’s (WebAssist) database connection and George Petrov’s (DMXZone) database connection differ significantly. Ray Borduin utilizes MySQLi, which excels at connecting to MySQL/MariaDB databases. George Petrov, on the other hand, relies on PDO, a versatile approach that enables connections to a variety of databases.

For instance, I personally appreciate using SQLite—a lightweight, file-based database often favored for mobile applications. Some prefer NoSQL options like MongoDB, while others turn to cloud databases such as Azure Cosmos DB. And, of course, there’s always the trusty MySQL/MariaDB. The beauty of PDO is its ability to accommodate all these choices seamlessly.

    I gather you're using a WebAssist product?

    PHP: MySQLi Manual

DMX Zone still makes extensions for Dreamweaver.

They're also the makers of Wappler -- Visual Web App Builder.

Most people are just either writing their own scripts or they may be using something that already connects to the database. To your point on databases, SQL databases are still very much in favor, but there are also newer ones that have become more prominent in recent years such as graph databases like Neo4j. It really all depends on your application and goal of the database utilization.
