Which would be better to use... mysql workbench or phpmyadmin?

Since they are both free, you can try them both and see which one you like. Workbench is nicer for working with stored procedures. Workbench has more capabilities than PHPmyadmin, but there are even better database interfaces out there. You may also want to look at HeidiSQL.
