Dreamweaver 2018 CC - 'global.css' is a remote file and cannot be edited

Without rhyme or reason, Dreamweaver all of a sudden will not allow me to edit local css files. I have tried all present solutions to no avail. I have tried deleting the cache.

  1. I have mirrored the remote folder with the local one to see if that will help, but no!
  2. Upon clicking on the html doc. I am working on, Dreamweaver will even change the name of the stylesheet to a former stylesheet title, even though it has been deleted and replaced both in the remote and local folders.

The <head> looks like this:-

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />

<meta name="viewport" content="initial-scale=1, maximum-scale=1 user-scalable=no" />

<script type="text/javascript" src="java/FWDSISC.js"></script>

<link href="css/global.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">

Any help in the matter will be deeply, deeply appreciated.

A suggestion to a solution-

Look within your html file and search for the existence of a potential “data-link” attribute. If there is such an attribute within your html, then make sure it is not redirecting the html file to a remote site or folder.

If it is, then this might be the probable cause of the issue. The reason being, that once the redirection has been completed, it is then the remote CSS page that is temporarily considered the valid CSS page by Dreamweaver.

And following that logic, when you attempt to activate/edit your local attached CSS page, Dreamweaver will not see the local CSS page as valid, as it is temporarily attached to the remote CSS page, resulting in the error: "css is a remote file and cannot be edited".

Consider redirecting potential “data-link” attributes to a page in your local folder while working on the local site, or temporarily comment them out of function.

Hope this is helpful.

I know this isn't your question but I really, really dislike this in your meta tag.

<meta name="viewport" content="initial-scale=1, maximum-scale=1 user-scalable=no" />

User-scalable should never be turned off.  Apparently you do not realize how difficult this makes it for vision challenged users on mobile devices.

This is what you should be using:

<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">

Regarding your question, try Restore Preferences.

Unusual behavior in Dreamweaver? Try restoring preferences.

Also ensure that you have full read & write permissions on your site folder and files.
