Question

Dreamweaver 21.2 mouse click and hold not working

Macbook Pro 16 inch 2019

Mac OS Monterey 12.3.1

Adobe CC Dreamweaver v.21.2

Noticed recently when I work in Dreamweaver, mouse click and hold does not respond, so I cannot access all the menus where you need to click/hold to see the drop-down menus (e.g. File, Edit, View, Insert, Tool, Find, Site, Window, Help). basically cannot click and drag within Dreamweaver.

This does not happen to other Adobe apps such as Illustrator, Photoshop or InDesign...etc. only to Dreamweaver.  checked update to see if Dreamweaver has any updates but no, I am on the latest version.  Not sure if this is a conflict glitch between Adobe and Monterey 12.3.1?

Update 6/1/2022:  Nope v.21.1 acts the same way, top app menus

act screwy again. click of mouse on the menu does not make the menu pop up.

The strange fix is to launch another adobe app, or go to an already opened adobe app, then come back to DW and everything will work!

In conclusion: cmd+option+Shift click on app icon to reset preference file, change to another mouse, go back to DW v.21.1 all failed.  Simply go to another opened Adobe app and come back to DW solved the issue, thus far.

    Update 4/26/2022:

Spoke too soon, reset preference didn't resolve the issue, I went ahead and uninstall/reinstalled Dreamweaver, same thing.

My workaround was mouse click one time, and mouse click second time and hold the button, now I can drag the mouse down to select my menu item by letting go of the mouse button.  However if the menu item has a ">" fly-out menu, I am out of luck, cannot select those.

I switch to magic mouse and another wired mouse to no avail, so input hardware shouldn't be the issue.  All other Adobe apps, Microsoft 365 apps, Chrome, Mac OS, iTune, Sketchup...etc all works flawlessly, just in Dreamweaver the menu is jacked.

Finally, I uninstalled DW again, and reinstalled older version 12.1, VIOLA!  the menu works as it should.

My logical conclusion is DW 12.2 (2021) might be good for the earlier version of Monterey.  Latest Monterey 12.3.1 is good with DW 12.1.

To clarify terms, Dreamweaver 12 is CS6 from 2012.

The current version of Dreamweaver CC is 21 released in Oct 2021.

When you say Menu, are you talking about the upper toolbar inside the DW app or the Menus in your site page?

To activate Menus in your site page,  you must use Ctrl/Cmd + Click.   Or use Preview in Browser.

    you're right, my mistake typing.

I was referring to the menu of the actual app, not a created website.

OK, here is what I noticed:

First click of the mouse on menu does nothing, drop down menu does not appear, but when I mouse click the second time not release the mouse button, I can scroll down the drop down menu.

Also noticed is that after a few hours of working within dreamweaver, the issue disappeared.

Very strange but workable if I don't have to uninstall and re-install.

Something at your end is squirrely. That's not normal mouse behavior in Adobe apps.

I hover or click one time on top menu and it opens automatically and remains open.

Maybe check your mouse settings. Or try a different mouse.

yes, something definitely squirrely on my Dreamweaver app end, cmd+option+Shift click on app icon to reset preference file resolved the issue.

Do you use a Magic Mouse?

I am using an el-cheapo MS wired mouse.  But it works great for 2 plus years and still going strong with any other apps.

When have you ever needed to click and hold for the File menu on a Mac?  What happens if you just click File?  Does it really just go away?  This sounds like a re-install may be needed or a deeper issue with the computer.  If it is really disappearing like that, does it happen for all users? Can you try another user account?

yea, usually you click on the menu item, the drop down menu appears, or you can hold and drag, in my case, the drop down menu does not appear either way.

#1  Dreamweaver is not a click & drag app.  It's a code editor.

#2 If top Menu items are not functioning, try the following:

    Restart your computer.

Change or reset your Workspace.  See screenshot.

    Restore Preferences.

thanks, my issue is not pertain to create/code a html page, but the user interface is out of whack.  I found a workaround now, if it gets to a point where it is too cumbersome, I will do the reset or even uninstall and re-install.  Thanks.
