I webmaster a Vietnam Vets website centaursinvietnam.org  The many rollovers on my homepage (index.html) quit working after I changed one of the navagation buttons. They have worked for a decade. Everything else and the new button work fine. When I upload a past version the rollovers work. Compared the two sets of code, line by line and found nothing. ??  Dreamweaver 21.3 on iMac.

    10 year old websites are not a good fit with modern web devices. Navigation is the least of your problems, I'm afraid.

    Image based text is unreadable by vision impaired users, screen readers, language translators and search engine crawlers. Given that the Vietnam war ended in 1975, you really must give more consideration to senior users.

    The site is not responsive.  It doesn't fit on ALL devices.  Internet users today have a multitude of devices ranging anywhere from small mobile & tablet to extra-extra large 4-5K displays.   This site is alienating all but  one group of desktops that have 1366px wide monitors.  For this reason alone, the current site is not web-friendly.

    What are your long-term plans for the site?  Do you need this site to have a future or are you looking to archive it?

    By way of illustration, see screenshots.

    Home page on large screens, too much wasted white space.

    Without images, nothing but an empty page.

    Responsive site made with Bootstrap.  No empty pages or wasted white space, fits all sized devices.

    If you want the code for this layout, just say the word.

    There are newer and better ways to create rollover images. One example is

    <img src="default-image.jpg" onmouseover="this.src='rollover-image.jpg'" onmouseout="this.src='default-image.jpg'" alt="Rollover Image">

    Ben,

    I am finally back at it with my Rollover problem. You suggested the new code:

    <img src="default-image.jpg" onmouseover="this.src='rollover-image.jpg'" onmouseout="this.src='default-image.jpg'" alt="Rollover Image">

    I am not smart enough to make that change to my code. Could you use an example of my code below and rewrite it with your new code? Then maybe I could use the example to recode everything.

    Rollover example from my index page:
    <div id="apDiv2" onmouseover="MM_swapImage('Image2','','ReunionCategoryImages/apDivHiLite.png',2)" onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()" onmousedown="MM_goToURL('parent','../VideoHTML/_Pledge2012.html');return document.MM_returnValue"><img src="ReunionCategoryImages/apDivTrans.png" alt="a2" width="222" height="23" id="Image2" /></div>

    Rollover example from my past Reunion page:
    <div id="apDiv2" onmouseover="MM_swapImage('Image2','','ReunionCategoryImages/apDivHiLite.png',2)" onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()" onmousedown="MM_goToURL('parent','../VideoHTML/_Pledge2012.html');return document.MM_returnValue"><img src="ReunionCategoryImages/apDivTrans.png" alt="a2" width="222" height="23" id="Image2" /></div>

    If not, can you recommend someone or a service that we could pay a fee to rebuild our website.

    Thanks

    Macromedia rollovers (MM) are ancient & outdated for today's Internet users.  If you wish to rebuild your site & navigation, I can recommend a few options below:

    1) Use an online web service. This would be your best option for a collaborative project as fellow users can log-in from any device in any location to edit site content from their web browser.  No other standalone software is required.  The site and the tools to edit it are installed on the hosting server.  Fees vary & may require you to use their hosting service.

    2) Do it yourself with Dreamweaver CC or a similar code editor.  Find a Bootstrap starter template (free or premium).  Bootstrap is a mobile-friendly, 12-grid layout system for creating responsive websites that perform well on all devices. The learning curve isn't steep but it requires prior knowledge of HTML5 and CSS code.  And of course, you'll need someone who can maintain the site with standalone coding software.

    3) List your JOB FOR HIRE on Behance where interested web developers are likely to see it.  Skilled talent can expect to receive USD $45 - $65 per hour, depending on region & project requirements.

    Hope that helps.
