Dreamweaver 21 and Databases

I am new to using DW21, and want to connect to a MySQL Database, I am using GoDaddy as the Hosting company and have created a Database and Forms using cPanel and phpMyAdmin.

I have created a Form in DW21 and want to submit the data to the Database.

In previous versions of DW I could setup a Connection, but DW21 seems to be different - or have I missed something?

Is the preferred method to have a local database as part of the Site, or to use the SQL database provided by GoDaddy?

I will continue to search youtube videos etc but thought I would ask the Community

    Have you tried running Dreamweaver on localhost with any server software like xampp or mamp?
    These plugins are very expensive. Will dreamveaver be obsolete in the future?

    Xampp works on all platforms.

    Hi @Sean26977420eq46,

    Thanks for writing to us. In case you are looking for bringing back the database and server behaviours panel as available in previous Dw versions, you can install the Server Behavior & Database add-on from Creative Cloud Desktop App by following the steps mentioned in this article. Please search for Server Behaviour & Database for Dreamweaver product and install the same for getting back the panels under Dw Window menu. As mentioned by @osgood_, this will be compatible with previous php versions.

    Refer this link for more info on the add-on: https://exchange.adobe.com/apps/cc/1315/server-behavior-database

    Have a pleasant day!

    Regards,

    Nayan

    Thank you @Nayan_Kankariya for the information.

    I decided to follow the instructions and managed to install the Server Behavior & Database add-on from Creative Cloud Desktop App. But that is where the problems starts.

    1. I choose the latest PHP version supported by Dreamweaver and encounter two problems

    a.

    b. The plus button is greyed out

    The plus button is available when I choose PHP 5.6, but this is even worse than using PHP 7.1!

    Please tell us when the Dreamweaver Team will fix this.

    Wappler is the DMXzone-made Dreamweaver replacement and includes the best of their powerful extensions, as well as much more!

    Informing someone to install outdated workflows which are not supported in newer versions of MAMP, WAMP, XAMMP for local developement is mind boggling to me UNLESS I've got this wrong and the DW server behaviours have been upgraded to work with php7/8? Is that the case and if that is the case why arent they in the program as default, or am I missing something here? Was this a project that was started and never finished. I seem to remember sometime back that new server bevhaviours were coming to the party but they didn't arrive?

    If you have a website that you need to maintain and it still uses php 5+ or below then its an option but for any new build do they support php7+???

    MYSQLi (improved) Connection Script.

    SaveAs TEST.php and run on your server.

    <?php
    $con = mysqli_connect("localhost","your_username","your_password","database_name");

    // Check connection
    if (mysqli_connect_errno())
      {
      echo "Failed to connect to MySQL: " . mysqli_connect_error();
    		}
    		else echo "Successfully connected, happy coding!"
    ?>

    <?php phpinfo() ?>

    I develop locally with the MySQL database in my local testing server. Whichever server you install should match the remote server's PHP & MYSQL version.

    • WAMP (Win or Mac),
    • XAMPP (Win or Mac),
    • MAMP / MAMP PRO (Mac).

    At completion, use your local phpMyAdmin to export SQL data.  Use the remote server's phpMyAdmin to import the SQL file.

    Commercial Extensions for Dreamweaver:

    3rd Party App:

    Wappler ~ Visual Web App Builder -

    Hope that helps.

    You could also move to a more modern IDE such as Wappler. Here I have produced a video where a remote databse has been used.

    Only issue might be Wappler is £520 a year outlay for an individual if you want all the bells and whistles included. WebAssist server extension is £142.00 while DMXZone is £172.00, l think, might be Euros.

    Do you stick with a product that is getting no more updates as far as we know or do you bite the bullet and spend big for a product which is currently evolving. I guess it comes down to if youre actually making any money out of web development or just doing it on an irregular basis for fun.

    I guess Wappler would be an option if you only needed it for a couple of months, 98 euros BUT it may take at least that long to understand how it works.

    There is no longer any options to connect to a database in newer versions of Dreamweaver. The server behaviours in older versions of Dreamweaver are  now out dated (which is why they were removed) and should not be used. Most likely they won't be compatible anyway if your host frequently updates php and mysql. I think the last version of php that was still compatible with the old Dreamweaver server behaviours was php 5+ and we are now at php 8+.

    Your options are to purchase an extension for Dreamweaver from a 3rd party source such as WebAssist or DMXZone or code the connections and query the database yourself.

    Preferred workflow, at least as far as lm concerned, is to test your construction locally using a FREE local server environment such as Xampp, PC or Mac compatible or Mamp if your on a Mac. Both are downloadable packages which contain phpMyAdmin, php/mysql.
