Question

Dreamweaver 8 refugee. Just subscribed to latest Dreamweaver and I am lost!

Having just purchased the latest Dreamweaver I am totally lost in maintaining some older .asp sites. I added the extension to bring back the database bindings but I am yet to find anyplace to move the recordset fields into my html. Is there another extension I need to purchase that makes it like the old Dreamweaver 8 or am I going to have to abandon the new Dreamweaver and run an installation of Windows 7 with DW8? Am I missing something?

I am an old dog so it is hard for me to learn new tricks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Beyond what has been stated it's worth noting that classic ASP is likely nearing it's end of life along with DW. VBscript which was commonly used on ASP pages was deprecated back in 2023, and as of Server 2025, asp is only supported as an optional feature.

    Thanks,

I guess I will dump the new dreamweaver since it won't do what I need and temporarily set up a windows 7 box and run DW8 to fix what I need to fix. Move over to .Net and C# or Python for anything new.

    Any suggestions?

The only problem you might run into is that activation servers of the CS2/DW8 era were taken offline quite awhile back so that may no longer be possible to install DW8 again. The best free editor for MS code will be visual studio code that Nancy linked to: https://code.visualstudio.com/ . There is also Rider: https://www.jetbrains.com/rider/ .

    1) Classic .asp, is still supported to the extent possible by Microsoft's Visual Studio Code.

    https://code.visualstudio.com/

    2) Adobe removed Server-Behaviors panels from Dreamweaver about 13 or 14 years ago because they're unfit for use.

    3) I think DMX Zone still has extensions for ASP coders. Although I can't attest to how well they work in DW 21, as that's not my wheelhouse.

    4) If these were my legacy sites, I would scrap them and rebuild with an online CMS that can be maintained by non-coders.
