Dreamweaver CC 2017.5 Freezing

Since updated to the latest version of Dreamweaver (with Git functionality), the program stalls/freezes/locks-up randomly for exactly 5 seconds. I only use Dreamweaver in code view, so I don't know if it happens in other views, but in code view, I'll be typing away and the cursor will just disappear for 5 seconds and then return. This happens several hundred times a day.

Is anyone else experiencing this? If so, do you have a fix?

I wanted to give an update on my experience in case in may help someone else...

I primarily code in PHP, javascript, css/less, html. This was freezing was happening on all types of pages.

On my server (IIS), I have several versions of PHP installed for testing purposes. In Dreamweaver, the PHP version selected was the correct version I was currently using (PHP v5.6). Once I got to the point where I decided to try anything, I changed the PHP version development environment in Dreamweaver to the highest version of PHP on my server (PHP v7.1). I have not had the freezing problem since I made that change (~ a week now).

The setting is found under Manage Sites > Edit > Advanced Settings > PHP. This is a per-site-setting, so I changed it on all my sites and it has worked so far!

Hope this helps out!

Update #3: Alrighty, another restart, trying the same and now it appears to be working as before. Don't ask me what happened. I am out

------

Update #2: Ok, it get's better! I deleted cache, cookies, everything from Chrome - this didn't help. But, and here is the kicker, the fix for me (I am able to replicate it as well):

Start in code view -> use Preview in Browser -> use the Split View in DW (preview in the DW window with the page on the left half of the screen, code on the right) -> test around, save some stuff (it saves as usual, with no delay) -> CLOSE the split view, by only using the Code view again ->-> and suddenly saving works as usual with the Preview in Browser still active.

So I don't know, what exactly happens in DW, that helps it save again like before the update and it is annoying and time consuming to do the stept described above, to be able to work again, but for me this has fixed it.

-----------

Update: I tried deleting a corrupted cache file , restarted, tried again. And it saves as before, IF I don't use the Browser Preview function (I work in the code view).

As soon as the Preview Browser window is initialized and I tried to save, the same issue is happening again.

-------------- original post --------------

I can report a similar issue. Just updated Dreamweaver to the latest version via updater and now Dreamweaver will completely freeze up, after I save a file. I have a preview window for Chrome in a second screen, where everything works as intended, only DW will just stop, increase the CPU load by 30% for about 5-7 seconds and then return to normal. In that timeframe, DW is unusable.

Nothing else changed, same setup, no additional extension, just updated DW and it became basically unusable, as I change and save very, very frequently.

This is not happening on a particular site. It is happening on every site I manage. It started happening after the latest update.

Hi,

Thank you for the inputs. Can you please check if you have any Web Companion installed on your machine?

Check this link for this issue- Dreamweaver crashes on Windows

Once you are done, please relaunch Dw to see if it fixes the issue.

There are so many factors, internal and external, that can influence Dreamweaver. I find that the best way to use Code view is to make sure that you have Desgn view activated rather than Live view, especially when using server side code.

Wappler is the DMXzone-made Dreamweaver replacement and includes the best of their powerful extensions, as well as much more!

Thank you for the suggestion, but I don't have Live or Design view activated. In Dreamweaver options, I list all extensions that I work with in the "Open in Code View" option, which, as far as I can tell, disables all other views.

Hi,

So, since you are using some extensions to customize Dreamweaver to suit your requirements, you might try disabling them for some time and check if you are seeing that Dw still gets stuck. If yes, then can you please share us a video clip demonstrating the issue.
