Dreamweaver CC slow typing performance [ awfully slow ]

Hello

I updated my Dreamweaver CC last week trough the cloud, and all of a sudden Dreamweaver feels slow and i cant even see the characters i am typing in realtime.

For a programmer , needing Dreamweaver on a daily base, this is rather annoying.

The code is 8000+ lines long, but it all went well before the update. I tried smaller scripts ( 2000+ and 5000+ lines ) and it behaves the same.

I tried a empty document and it does lag slightly ( even if there is no code ) as well.

Please do somoething about this, as it is a no go for my company. We have 4 other guys that are experiencing the same problem and mind you, we are all paying our CC monthly fee.

And another one for your list.  Same thing happening to me since before and after Mavericks.  Have tried a re-install and all of the things in this thread but so far no fix.

It is happening on both a Late 2009 iMac and a Late 2011 MacBook Pro.  Both with Dreamweaver CC 13.1 Build 6443 and Mavericks 10.9.0 Build 19A603

Hi ,

We are happy to inform you that DW's next update is made available today. This update has a fix for the slow typing issues in DW  Please install & let us know your thoughts

Code View performance improvements

The following bugs are fixed to improve the Dreamweaver performance in Code View:

  • Typing gets progressively slow as the number of lines of code increases.
  • Cursor (IP) disappears while typing and navigating in Code View.
  • Dreamweaver Crashes on closing a tag by entering </ in Code View.
  • Change the default keyboard shortcut for CTRL+LEFT to ALT+LEFT and CTRL+RIGHT to ALT+RIGHT and vice-versa.
  • On Mac 10.9, Dreamweaver crashes while selecting a file in File Dialog for Insert Image.
  • Dreamweaver displays a syntax error even if the PHP code is valid.

[MORE THINGS TRIED TO IDENTIFY CAUSE OF SLOWNESS PROBLEM]

PARTIAL HELP… Appears to me that once a site goes slow it cannot be brought back to fast again.  Appears if remote site goes unavailable for any reason, the long delays start (I think). I unchecked using the remote server in Site Management for the site I am working on. It seems to help, however it's still 50% painfully slow.

THIS WORKS FOR A WHILE… If you start with a fresh site, it's fast and works like a dream. Then something happens, somewhere, and it goes into click, beach ball, click, beach ball… mode.

Given the tremendous amount of error checking and UI overhead to run CC, and the 'cough' magical things that seem to happen with every click, I'm not surprised dreamweaver has become slow. They gotta get this fixed and soon. It's been well over 6 months since I first started seeing this, and thought it was just me.

I don't want to jinx it but I think they have finally fixed this problem in the latest release. Update was pushed through yesterday and now DW CC is lightning fast again. Did seem to reset my view though so maybe it did a bit of a cleanup?

SAME ISSUE ON MAC.  Dreamweaver CC is too slow to use.

iMac 10.8.5, 24GB ram, Fusion drive. Dreamweaver CC Build 6982.

Machine is fast on everything else.  Dreamweaver impossible to use.

Goes like this… Click, beach ball, click, click, beach ball.. repeat.

If I had to guess, it's a connectivity timeout problem looking for a resource that is not available, timing out, then looking again.

Moved it to my imac at home and have same slow behavior.

Most disturbing this issue has gone on for months and months on both platforms (PC and Mac).

Going on for months for many of us. The right thing Adobe should do now is acknowledge the problem and tell us that they are working on a fix.

But instead they ask for specific machine details/settings. Well I would think is obvious by now that it is beyond what machine/OS/security we all have. Come on Adobe, fess up to the problem! Tell us what you are doing about it!

I have moved on to other products for my web work now but there are still aspects of DW that I like.

But I am now getting close to shutting down my Creative Cloud account as a statement and I'll make do with what else I can find! (and don't forget the power of word-of-mouth)

I have been watching this thread for a solution but nothing has worked for me. I have the same issue as most and it is extremely frustrating working in DW CC. I have cc2014.1 build 6947 and is is really slow in design view and code view - forget live view, I could get coffee everytime I make a change! Everything is slow from typing, resizing a window, switching between design and code view, selecting css style etc, etc.... Just tried to resize a design view and my whole pc froze and explorer crashed. The problem also causes other open programs to slow down while DW CC is open.

I have now switched back to cs6 as it does not have this issue so I am confident it not my PC or code that is the issue.

I am having the same sluggish problems with the most recent dreamweaver CC. I uninstalled and reinstalled the application 3 times today and I still get the spinning color wheel with every move and selection, typing etc. Any solutions to this?

Does this happen with all files and sites or just certain ones?

Does this happen with a new, blank document?  If not, then something in your code is creating latency issues.  But what that is anybody's guess.  We would need to see a link to your online page.

Hey Nancy...I'm having the same issue. Just as a comparision, I opened a file in Dreamweaver - and it took forever to open, feeling like DW was going to crash. I opened the same file in Brackets - and it was amazingly quick. Opened the same file in Sublime - also very quick. Definitely appears to be a DW issue.

Same issue on MacboorkPro retina. I got the feeling that is has something to do with big tables in the html document.  And it only slows down in Split or Design View.

Hi All,

The latest version of Dreamweaver CC 2014 is now available for download.

Download it from https://creative.adobe.com/ or directly through the Creative Cloud desktop app.

Give it a try and let us know if you still face any issues.

i had the same issues i noted previously in cc 2014 as well.

but removing x11 from my mac & then deleting DW preferences & logging out / in has improved performance for me.  guessing there's some interference there, maybe related to java.

here's how to remove x11 on mac.

Be extremely careful when doing this, as a small typo could cause important files to be deleted and you may have to reinstall OS X! If you are at all unsure of what you are doing, back up all your important data first! I cannot accept responsibility for any loss caused by following these instructions – All I know is they worked for me.

The commands to delete everything are as follows:
sudo rm -rf /Applications/Utilities/X11.app
sudo rm -rf /private/etc/X11
sudo rm -rf /usr/X11R6
sudo rm -rf /usr/bin/open-x11
sudo rm -rf /usr/lib/X11
sudo rm -rf /Library/Receipts/X11User.pkg

These can be combined into one line as follows:
sudo rm -rf /Applications/Utilities/X11.app /private/etc/X11 /usr/X11R6 /usr/bin/open-x11 /usr/lib/X11 /Library/Receipts/X11User.pkg

Same problem here.  Dreamweaver CC is totally useless to our team.  Incredibly slow.  The notion that it's a setting or machine performance issue, as has been suggested in this thread by Adobe staff, is a joke.  I'm personally on a 4k top of the line solid state MBP, and DW is useless for doing anything more than a minor code tweak.

Also, why does the DW interface still look like an old Windows 98 machine?  Seems like this program has always been a bloated afterthought.

I'm still having the same problems as above. I've spent over an hour messing around with things as advised by support with no resolution - Adobe, please could you let us know what you are doing about this issue, making a website has never been so stressful!

Same problem for me. Really? A problem this bad and it's been known for at least 3 months? Ridiculous

I have the code editor lag as well, but only on Dreamweaver CC on Mac OSX (I'm running v10.6.8).  I still have CS6 on the same machine and Dreamweaver CS6 doesn't suffer from the lag.  I also have Dreamweaver CC on my Windows 7 PC at home and it doesn't have the lag either.

Another thing I've noticed is that I can't do Cmd + Shift + ← or Cmd + Shift + → to select words or groups of words any more in Dreamweaver CC on Mac OSX 10.6.8. Similarly, Cmd + ← and Cmd + → jump to the end or beginning of a line rather than to the next word as in CS6 (and as in every other text program).  This is one of those seemingly tiny things that makes a huge difference to someone who uses these shortcuts a thousand times a day without even thinking about it.

This makes Dreamweaver CC essentially untenable for me on my work Mac.  I'm using CS6 until these issues are resolved.

Got the update for DW today version 13.1 build 6443 and now I'm suffering from the same issue. Completely unusable. I guess it's time to uninstall and reinstall and not update again. Doesn't look promising when the issue has been reported 2½ months ago and is still unsolved.
