Question

Dreamweaver crashes after updating links in files for a site

I'm using Dreamwever v 20.2 on MacOS Catalina v 10.15.6.

I'm experiencing the consistent problem of Dreamwever suddenly quitting with no warning or error message when trying to move a group of files from one location to another within multiple local sites.

The process that occurs that initiates the crash is I go to the files window, select a site, highlight a group of files and drag them to another folder within the site. I then get a popup "Update Files" window with the prompt "Update links in the following files?", and then I click the update button. Progress displays and the process proceeds as expected, however upon completion (or close to it I assume), Dreaweaver suddenly quits with no warning message. I've attached four screenshots.

It seems to be related possibility to the number of files within the site as it often will not crash if I just move one or a few but almost always crashes if I move 20+ files.

Dreamweaver also randomly crashes sometimes when changing from one site to another in the files menu. This seems to be random and not associated to any particular site.

I've used Dreamweaver daily since 2006 and manage scores of websites using it. The moving and updating of links within the site files is actually one of the main benefits for me in using Dreamweaver and I've used the function thousands of times with no issues.

Here are the actions I've taken thus far in an attempt to resolve the issue, all unsuccessful.

  • Upgraded my macOS from high sierra to Catalina
  • Reinstalled Dreamweaver multiple times
  • Tried downgrading Dreamweaver to 19.2.1
  • Setup a new users account on my mac
  • Manually removed Dreamweaver cache files

I've also contacted Adobe support by phone and the person I spoke with didn't have any other suggestions or insight that the steps I had already tried as listed above.

Is there anyone out there in the support community that has encountered this and/or has any other suggestions to remedy the issue. I greatly appreciate any ideas or assistance that can be offered.

I've also attached the text from one of the crash reports.

This sounds like a memory problem to me.  Please ensure your computer meets or exceeds the minimum system requirements to run Creative Cloud + all other apps you intend to use. Check each one. Keep in mind that Catalina alone requires 4 GB of RAM and 12.5 GB of HD storage.

Did you run the Adobe Cleaner tool before reinstalling?

Adobe does have a bug reporting tool online. I would recommend posting a submission to that as well.  Based on everything you have done, I'm not sure of any other recommendations as you have done all that you can to resolve this and its likely a bug Adobe needs to address.

For some unknown reason, Dreamweaver is not listed in the product drop-down at that URL. Instead, use the Help, Submit Bug/Feature Request menu item within Dreamweaver to get to this URL.

    @Dave_e8e6kol3n69f,

You're responding to a 3 year old topic.  Dreamweaver's status has changed.

    See below for more details.
