Dreamweaver live view delayed

Hi there,

I'm completely new to Dreamweaver, but I have worked on websites a lot before. One thing Dreamweaver is offering, that got my attention, is the live view for code. I need to say that I was pretty confused when I activated "Live-Code" and couldn't edit my code anymore, but I found the Split option shortly after. Well, I am honestly very disappointed by the live view. When writing code I always need to stop after some typing since it is not fast enough to load really live. That's annoying. I have also tried viewing in browser, but that's the exact same speed like in Dreamweaver itself. Is that caused by some messed up preferences/options or is that how it is supposed to be? I mean... the support page about the real-time preview even shows it in REAL time, so my expectations shouldn't be too high, are they?

Live-Code is not an editing mode.  It's mainly for debugging server-side scripts.

Go to View > Split and select Code & Design View.  It's much faster for writing code.

Real-Time & Device Preview uses Adobe's server and places your work inside an iframe.   I use a local testing server, so I have no need for Real-Time & Device Preview.  Instead, I use Right-Click > Open in Browser and hit F5 to refresh my browser.

Thanks for the reply!

I noticed I should have described my issue better. Through my web research I already figured out Live-Code is not the right thing for me. Indeed I was using the Split mode.

What I originally meant was a small delay after writing my code - not much more than half a second - to (automatically) refresh the website, which stacks while typing. It doesn't sound like much, but having to wait to refresh it when typing a whole line fast or having it randomly refresh in between (dependent on typing speed) makes the workflow feel very unsmooth.

During my research I found this page: How to preview web pages in Dreamweaver

In the video on the very top of the page the edited website in the background refreshes instantly while writing the code. This looks like it's the expected behaviour, so I'm wondering what's wrong on my part.

Is that a Mac-only thing? Is the video from an older version and it got patched for whatever reason? Is it due to some bad settings in my software?

I think that animated GIF is exaggerated or speeded up for illustration purposes.   RTP is not that quick for me.  There's about a 2 second lag from when I start typing in code view to when I see results in my browser.   It's nothing wrong with your settings.  That's just how it works.
