Dreamweaver Mx won't connect with new server

Hello:

I recently switched to a new web host and server.  I had no problems with my last server in Dreamweaver connecting with my remote files.  I got a message that Dreamweaver connected to server, but on the right hand column where it's supposed to come up I got gibberish.  The following error message was flashed: "Dreamweaver cannot determine the remote server and time.  The synchronization features are not available."  This is, of course, nonsense, since it worked find with my last web host server.  I searched Dreamweaver and also made sure that Windows Defender included Dreamweaver in its exclusions.  Is there something I have missed?  This doesn't make sense!

    Nancy:

    Adobe owns Dreamweaver now. There is now 2018 version of Dreamweaver. I should think you, as a member of the forum, you would know this. I can't believe Dreamweaver Mx is out of date. There are too many people using it. If you don't know the answer please just say so.

    As Nancy mentioned, DW MX2004 hasn't been supported by Adobe in many years, however, there were updates for it that you "could" be missing. You can go to their downloaders page to see what's available, though I have no idea if anything will help you in the long run, the last update for your version of the program was made in March of 2004...

    I have been using MX 2004 & have had no problems up until end of Feb 2023. Suddenly It won't connect and I got the can't determine server time message. I worked with IONOS tech support for an hour but could not get a result. I am now making my edits in Dreamweaver & uploading the alters files with FileZilla. It's not quite seamless but not much of a problem. It's as if Dreamweaver had a time limit built in.

    There hasn't been an update to MX in well over a decade.

    Something else changed, whether in your operating system, or at your hosting company.

    You could try using the free Filezilla FTP client, if it works there, it would point to DW MX simply showing its age. If it doesn't work, your hosting company might be able to reset your credentials and get you up and running.

      Can you connect to the server with a dedicated FTP client like Filezilla?  It might just be that DW MX is too old to handle connections with modern servers.

      Yes, I can connect to Filezilla, but this is a cumbersome method, which circumvents Dreamweaver. I would lose the most important tool at my disposal to make edits to my web pages. I thought of another reason possible why Dreamweaver Mx has problems with the new server. When looking at the right column of Filezilla after I transferred my local folder to 1 and 1, I see question marks that indicate a problem. Please look at the attached screenshot. What might be causing this problem is that, until GoDaddy releases my domain (geraldgibson.com) June 30th, 1 and 1 has me listed as an external website. Right now GoDaddy is pointing to my website, which comes up as it did before. Though Dreamweaver can, because of the new site definition, connect with the server as indicated when testing the data, it really isn't communicating with the new server. I have no idea why it would signal success when there is gibberish registered instead of the remote site. It reads:

      aspnet_client

      system web

      4_0_30319

      Do you have any idea what that means? Is there a remedy? Are there drivers or updates for Dreamweaver Mx. Why did it work so well with my original webhost (IT West)?

      Macromedia DW MX is old software that's no longer supported or updated.  Macromedia went out of business in 2005.

      Hi Gerald,

      Very hard to determine what you have missed. All I can say at this stage, have you set the remote server up properly, including the root directory? Does the FTP to the new server require a secure connection? Have you been in touch with the service provider?
