Question

Dreamweaver needs an upgrade.

Dreamweaver doesn't currently live up to its name. But I have an unsolicited suggestion for that.

I'd like to have a chatbot that I could talk to built into the software. I'd like to be able to use ChatGPT and give it access to Adobe's code hinting and code completion features and open-source UI frameworks to create websites and apps conversationally.

I am still surprised by the almost extreme extrapolation on the use of AI that this exchange takes. To tell the truth, when I asked the question, I didn't expect to engage in a debate on the complex advances Nick Bostrom is talking about, but I thought we were going to talk about our own experiments, or not, with such technology in our daily life as a developer.

For example, as far as I'm concerned, I admit I've always had trouble approaching functional programming, and getting help in its approach, on concrete cases, applicable and verifiable in real time, as I code, is something that brings me and helps me a lot.

An other case, during complex debugging, also, it helped me a lot, and by the same way I could improve my way of coding.

Concretely, questioning myself on certain acquired knowledge, allowed me to foresee multiple alternative approaches and thus to make my code evolve in a more relevant way towards a cleaner, more performing, more evolutive style...

In the same way, and as I said in the previous comment, implementing new npm addons may requires taking into account the literature on the subject... so, asking for a synthetic summary, with concrete examples and adapted to the context was a very precious help for me

Said differently, I use ESLint, it's great, while I type I can correct my code, there I can adapt my code on complete alternative ways

Well, it is more on this kind of debate that I thought to open this discussion

The bottom line is, chatGTP and other AI concepts will only be helpful in terms of coding if you are familiar with coding terms, Example you have to know a window overlay is referred to as a 'modal' to get the best response. You have to have a reasonable knowledge of coding terms and coding to question if the responsive is written adequately or could it be better, it might even be wrong.

What lm saying is if you go into it blind then you're putting your faith in something you know nothing about. My concern is future developers will see it as a soft entry to pretend they are skilled exponents, just another crutch like the many frameworks and libraries already available, yet deep down a great percentage have zero idea other then deploying some components and classes.

I view it as a second opinion to my own.  If you've ever used jet brains products they are already intelligent enough to suggest a more streamlined coding approach should the program think yours could be better. It doesn't always get it right, depending on what the personal requirement may be,  but it's there as a useful guide and should be just that, not something you don't question and to question you still need a great deal of knowledge to either accept the response or reject it.

chat GPT used to be integrated into VSC. now we have to wait that GPT 3 allows it again... any way, that's why I was asking @rayek.elfin which addon was he using ?

It's amazing how using chat GPT helped me !

Hopefully it will die a death in the serious web-development industry in a short time. Co-Pilot was all the trendy thing a year or 2 ago, now no-one mentions it. Kiddies might play around with it.

Those kiddies are the same ones that had planned to become lawyers, notaries and general practioners until they realised that GPT makes those functions redumdant.

Wappler is the DMXzone-made Dreamweaver replacement and includes the best of their powerful extensions, as well as much more!

ChatGPT??  Ha.  Dream on....

If you want it, you'll have to build it yourself from open source code.

Adobe apps are not open source.

Besides Dreamweaver is in minimal maintenance mode.  No new features are planned except security and compatibility updates.

Pinegrow has already integrated AI features into its interface. It's more like dreamweaver than Visual Studio Code in my opinion, at least what it tries to achieve and works with a plugin alongside Visual Studio Code.

Regards!

Have you actually tried Pinegrow's "AI features"? It is a typical example of something quickly thrown together just to stay in the current trends...

It's only free for a certain amount of usage credits. You have to bring your own api key to the party to make use of it. I'd be slightly worried about what charges l may incur if l had to provide billing account details to get the api key. I don't know if that is the case or there is an option of a one time payment to purchase a higher amount of credit usage but stuff like that makes me a bit wary, that's why l personally stopped using Google maps and informed clients they would need to provide their own api key if they wanted Google maps included.

Dreamweaver is no longer developed and only minimally maintained with bug fixes here and there. The features you long for (AI-based coding assistance) are already available in Visual Studio Code via addons. Make the switch, and join the future 😜

My guess for VC code would be Github co-pilot.......its all inter-linked somewhere, l forget who owns what.
