dreamweaver scans all files in site when updating files

Hello Dreamweaver Forum

I have recently run into a small but annoying problem within dreamweaver. When move files to a new folder within dreamweaver, dreamweaver has begun to scan all files in the site first, before actually updating (the links within the document) the files when moving them.

It takes about 3 minutes to run through the scanning all files process and then finally the files are updated. Previously whenever I moved files to new folders it just updated them immediately, without the need to scan the entire site.

I have tried to google the issue but have found no solutions on the internet or youtube.

Help appreciated, thankyou.

    Hello Nancy

Tried that. Restarted Dreamweaver. Didn't help, still scans all files before updating. Any other possibilities?

    Thankyou,

    Peter

    The nuclear option:

Wipe DW off your system with the CC Cleaner Tool.

Do a fresh install of DW from CC Desktop App.

3 minutes is a long time.  How many files in your Local Site Folder?

As a test, go to Site > Advanced > Recreate Site Cache.

    How long does that take?

    Hello Nancy

Thank you for the reply. Just saw your reply today, mailed ended in spam folder. Not home now will check your suggestion about recreate cache. Just for clarification: The problem is that it never used to scan all files before updating them f.x. when I move files from root to a new folder, before it just updated the links and that was that. Not sure what has changed, that it has begun to scan all files in site before updating files.

    Thank you for your input.

    Disable synchronization information.

    1. Go to Site > Manage Sites > Servers > Advanced Tab > Remote Server (see screenshot).

    2. Untick the box to "Maintain synchronization information."

    3. Hit SAVE.

Have you recently changed any site settings, like unchecking the Enable Cache box in your site's Advanced Settings, or moved your files to an external drive?

If nothing has changed as far as the site's location, or the Enable Cache option, personally I'd try rebuilding the Site Definition. Sometimes a corruption of the defined site makes weird things happen, even though all the settings are the same.

    1. Choose Site > Manage Sites click the site you're working on and click Export (folder with arrow icon) to create a backup .ste file.
    2. Then, under Site > Manage Sites again, click the site you're working on and click Delete (- icon) to remove the site definition from DW
    3. Now you can either create a new site definition from scratch, telling DW to use your existing root directory and re-entering your ftp info, or go to Site > Manage Sites > Import Site, then browse to the .ste backup and bring it back into DW

    Hello Jon

Used Nancy O'Shea's nuclear option solution (i.e. complete uninstall and reinstall). Thankyou for your help and suggestions.

    kind regards,
