Question

Dreamweaver too expensive for what I need - can I...?

I am used to using Dreamweaver,  and have a monthly subscription of it at roughly £20 per month. I use it to sporadically update a website I run. The thing is, it is costing me the best part of £240 a year to use an app about 7 or 8 times! I know this probably isn't the place for this question but would appreciate a direction to take my request to - anyone help or give an idea of who to contact please?

Dave, UK.

Adobe doesn't have anything cheaper for DW users.  Sorry.

    • Visual Studio Code is free.
    • Brackets is free.
    • Pinegrow is a visual editor but it's not free.

In the long run, you should probably switch your site over to WordPress which is open source and supported by reputable web hosts.

Thank you Nancy, I shall look at these options too.

What exactly are you using DW for 7-8 times a year?  Are you programming?  Updating simple pages?  If you are doing code edits, there are other text editors out there, but if you are simply using it to update pages, switching to a CMS may be a more viable solution for you.

Yes, just using it for simple updates, the in-built FTP is the handiest part really.

The free Filezilla Client does the job better than DW's built-in functionality, if you're just holding onto DW for FTP.

Looks like you forgot to ask your question.

Brackets might be a good fit, if you can work with code (it's the current DW Code View), and it's free.

Yes, I didn't word that very well - my main issue was the cost of Dreamweaver with all the other stuff that comes with it (that I don't use) and Dreamweaver itself, that I need, but hardly use enough to justify the cost - I wondered if there was Dreamweaver 'light' option?! I can work with code, so I shall look at Brackets - thank you for your quick reply and help.

Unfortunately, Adobe doesn't offer any kind of "light" subscription for DW. It's only available as the standard single program or as part of a full subscription.
