Dreamweaver won't open html files

So the title basically says it all. Dreamweaver won't open HTML files (it will oddly open php files though)

I find the HTML file I want to edit, Dreamweaver successfully opens but just lands on the home screen and doesn't open the file.

I try to open it again. nothing.

I try to create a new file, save it and all the HTML code disappears in the editor and I am unable to edit or add anything. If I close out of dreamweaver and try to open the new file, Dreamweaver will open but not open the file.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Dreamweaver. Nothing.

I went into my systems Library and deleted all my preferences. Nothing.

I uninstalled and reinstalled Java. Nothing.

So basically I can't use Dreamweaver to do my work and I can't figure out why. HELP!

System:

MacOS 10.14.5

Dreamweaver 19.2

I figured out the issue. Turns out Dreamweaver doesn't open any files saved on network, cloud drives, or cloud back-up even if the files are stored on the local drive only syncing with the "non-local" storage upon change.

Here is what I concluded,

Open from NAS = Fail

Open from iCloud Drive = Fail

Open from Google Drive = Fail

Open from Creative Cloud Drive = Fail

Drag file to Desktop and Open = Successful

If this is some how a "feature" and not a bug (since every other CC app can open non-local files), may I suggest you add an error prompt.

My HTML files were on a local disk and had exactly the same issues as OP's.

However the folder had the vertical bar | symbol in  the pathname and Dreamweaver couldn't process this. I removed the vertical bars from the pathname and all is working as it should.

    This fixed it for me... I removed the pipe character (vertical bar) from my folder name and then I was able to load my html file. Thanks!

    You shouldn't put a question mark at the end of your fact. That makes it...a question.

    Reproduce and note away on your Windows 10 system. Since the issue is presenting itself on a MacOS system which CC applications are separately developed for, the only thing your anecdotal evidence has to add to this conversation is that it is most likely is a bug.

    If Adobe's track record is anything to go by, I will see Dreamweaver implementing self writing code before I see a fix for this.

      A space before a question mark usually means 'how come?' which is a question.

      well, here I'm on windwo 10 last update, if files are set in properties dialog box to be opened by CC 2019.

      if an HTML file is present on a NAS (Synology in that case), I close everything, I double click on an HTML file, it will launch DW and open the file as expected ?
