Dreamweaver Creative Cloud 21.3 on macOS 10.14.6 is super slow, unusable. Beach Ball runs on and on. Please advise anyone can offer suggestions to get running again. Do I need to spend thousands on a new mac just for Adobe?

This is more of a testimonial than a piece of advice.

It's true that the recommendation is to work with Dw on the basic, internal disk, and to place all your local sites on it.

However, here we have no choice but to do the opposite, and work on servers remote from the local machine, including for the local version of our projects.

It's also true that we come across times when latency is so high that this becomes impractical (with Dw), because with other tools such as Sublime, VSC, Ultra Edit... it works perfectly and very flexibly.

However, during periods when it was impossible to work because latency was so high, @B i r n o u was in contact with Adobe teams to try to localize the problem and work around it. As it turned out, these problems were not related to Dw. And as proof, for nearly 6 months now, no one here has encountered any problems, no latency, no artifacts, we work in real time on multiple projects, with a panoply of tools including Dw, and no files are located locally on the internal disks of our machines, but rather on external servers, themselves defined as local sources.

For information, to date, it has still not been defined for what reason, sometimes Dw could enter latency... and sometimes works perfectly?

Your Mac at 10.14 is at the bare minimum for Dreamweaver. Assuming it cannot be upgraded to 10.15 means that your Mac is likely from 2011 or earlier. Because of this, I would say it is definitely time for an upgrade on the Mac side. Even if you went to alternative code editor like Nova, that requires Mac OS 11.6 or later which is also well beyond your system. And if only to run DW, you don't have to spend thousands on a new Mac. Something like this clearance Macbook Pro with an M1 Pro for $1,250 is more than sufficient: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1604817-REG/apple_z11b_myd8_07_bh_13_3_macbook_pro_with.html .

As resources go, DW is the least demanding of Adobe's products.

Make sure your computer meets the minimum CPU & GPU requirements. Most Creative Cloud apps work on:

  • Windows 11 (64-bit), Windows 10 versions 22H2, 21H2, 21H1;
  • MacOS 13 (Ventura), 12 (Monterey), macOS 11 (Big Sur).

Hope that helps.

Thank you.

The files and application are loaded on an external hard drive. Possibly DW is not working because of that?

==========

Yes.  DW can't readily communicate (read/write) with files that are not on the primary HD.

Try moving your site folder to C: drive and go to Site > New Site.  Local folder:  C:\MySite\
