DW Search

Why take something that was so easy and intuitive and make it more complex and unintuitive? Why not have Ctrl-F offer all the features of Ctrl-F and Ctrl-Shift-F and eliminate Ctrl-Shift-F? Why do I have to fill in so many items just to do a simple search? I tried to create a list of  <title> tags of all webpages in a folder. I know every webpage has a <title> tag. The results -- "Done. Not found in 65 documents." It used to be so easy to generate a list of all <title> tags. Now it may be impossible. Adobe really needs to hire a User Experience expert.

You can change the shortcut for the good search back to Ctrl+F by going to Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts

Duplicate the current set (icon with rectangle with dotted square over it), expand "Find", click on "Find in Current Docum...", then the minus below it. Now click "Find and Replace In Fi...", click the plus icon below, press Ctrl+F, then click the "Change" button and the "OK" button.

Note: Dreamweaver likes to delete your custom keyboard shortcut sets randomly so you'll have to keep doing this periodically.

Will the keyboard shortcut you describe allow me to do all the INCREDIBLY USEFUL find features that can't be done in the current DW? Like:

a) create a list of found items that can be exported into an editable format? Apparently there's a magic button that does not automatically appear above the search list to allow an export.

b) make the find window pervasive so that when I click off DW (to look up someting) and click back on DW, I don't have to open the find window again and enter my find text again?

"create a list of found items that can be exported into an editable format"

Yes, as I said 10 days ago and showed in my screenshot, SAVE REPORT works just fine for me in DW 21.0.

Maybe you need to upgrade.  Go to your Help menu and click on About Dreamweaver.  Which version and build # do you have?

"I tried to create a list of <title> tags of all webpages in a folder. I know every webpage has a <title> tag. The results -- 'Done. Not found in 65 documents.'"

It works fine for me.  See screenshot.

Did you define your local site folder yet? That's a critical first step when working with Dreamweaver.

Site > New Site or Manage Sites...

The old Dreamweaver had a VERY USEFUL feature -- export the results of a global search as an .xml. This feature is not available in the new Dreamweaver. I see the list of my search results, but there is no way to copy or download the list into an editible format. What used to take minutes to do will now take many tedious hours.

I branched and moved these posts to a new discussion for you as the thread you resurrected is 3 years out of date & no longer relevant to your current question.

This is a user-to-user forum with very little staff participation.  We are mostly fellow product users.

Dreamweaver was rebuilt from ground up a few years ago.  Nothing is the same as it was. It's an all new interface, new code engine with a new Find & Replace feature.  If Ctrl + Shift + F is too hard to remember, use the Find menu.

In the latest version of DW CC 21.0, there is indeed an icon to generate a report from your Search results Panel.  See screenshot.

Post back if you still need help.

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunatley, I don’t get that output window with the "Save Report" function. What unintuitive keystrokes or bizarre menu options will provide that functionality that was so obvious on the previous version?
