Question

Ecommerce sites and US state tax laws

I haven't done an ecommerce site since the new state tax laws went into effect a couple of years ago. I have had to turn down customers because I am unsure if it is worthwhile to attempt to configure an ecommerce site to calculate the tax of an item sold according to where the purchase was made.

Does anyone have any direct experience with tax configuration in ecommerce sites using DW and the Webassist plugin (or other ecommerce solution)?

My only nexus is with my home state in which I reside and operate my business.  Therefor, I collect sales tax (state, local & county) from customers who a) reside in my state and b) purchase taxable retail items.

I'm pretty sure all shopping carts have a tax variable in their backend system.

If not, find another shopping cart.
