Question

Enable Auto Compilation on File Save causes trouble

Greetings!

I develop primarily on a fussy, funky SAAS platform. I write my code in Dreamweaver becasue I've been using it since the 1999 or so and it's what I'm used to. (yes, I'm ancient).

The Enable Auto Compilation on File Save option is defaulted to ON. This causes me trouble. I usually remember to disable it before I start doing file transfers but when I forget, it takes me fifteen minutes to clean up the mess.

Any suggestions would be helpful but what I'm really looking for is a way to disable this feature so that the DEFAULT is OFF.

I am on a Windows machine and using the latest version of Dreamweaver.

Once I have saved the preference for a project, Dreamweaver hangs on to that setting.

As @Ben107584 M has stated, this is a problem with your OS (Apple with a bite taken out of it?).

Wappler is the DMXzone-made Dreamweaver replacement and includes the best of their powerful extensions, as well as much more!

I'm confused as to why you want to keep unprocessed SCSS code in its raw state.  Unless it's compiled, browsers can't read it.

🤔 🤔

I use an SAAS platform.  The .css files, once created by Dreamweaver, get automatically uploaded to the platform. I don't want them there. The platform does its own compiling. These css files sometimes cause me trouble. I don't want them.

Are you saying that no matter what you do, that the box is turning itself on and not saving the value? If so, what OS are you using? That would sound like a permissions issue that DW is having trouble writing to the file and you might need to reset preferences to let DW recreate the files ( https://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/kb/restore-preferences-dreamweaver.html ), or it could be a deeper OS issue on the user account in which case you would need to create a new user account on your computer OS and see if preferences are still failing to save there. If they are saving, then you may need to migrate to the new OS user account at that point.

I'm saying that each time I create a project, that box is toggled ON by default. I can turn it off and then start working and then those files will not be created. But sometimes I forget, and since the default is ON, then when I forget, the CSS files are created from different SCSS files, and then those get uploaded and sometimes that causes issues that are outside the scope of this conversation.

I want that box toggled OFF by default. OR, I want the option in the preferences to tell the system to keep it toggled off by default..
