Question

file doesn't open

When I control/click an HTML file and select "open with dreamweaver" it always launches the program but never opens the file. I always need to control click a 2nd time to get the file open. It's a minor issue but frustrating. Photoshop, illustrator, indesign and other do not have this problem. If anyone knows the solution, I would love to hear it. Thank you. I'm using an M1 macbook pro running ventura although the problem existed in previous versions of the OS as well.

@--rick_D , I'm probably a simpleton and didn't understand your initial question, nor its context.

well, I don't have a Mac handy, apart from MVs, but under W10, I empty all the sites from the file panel (which is therefore empty, like new out of the box), I create a file on a Synology server at the root of a buried folder... an empty file containing absolutely nothing, I name it haphazardly index (2).php ... (using spaces and parentheses)... I right-click (equivalent to ctrl-click on Mac) and choose to open with DW... and hop... magical, DW launches and the file opens... files that weren't closed the last time DW was quit, also reopen...

so in my opinion, and if my introductory sentence is wrong... it's a bug on the Mac, either in the system or in the application (La palisse)

Launch Dreamweaver.

Define a local site folder. Go to Site > New Site...

Once your site folder is defined on your primary hard drive, go to Ctrl/Cmd + O to Open File.

Thank you for the suggestion and perhaps this is the way adobe expects their software to be used. I am not creating websites, I create emails which only consist of an individual HTML file. There is no need to have a site folder. Since any HTML file by default opens in a web browser, control/click is needed to designate DW. I would love for adobe to solve this.

============

Dreamweaver is website software, not an email creator. Dreamweaver expects you to define at least one site folder for all your projects.  The folder should be read/writable and reside on your computer's primary hard drive.

No it's not. Simply open Mac Finder and re-associate HTML files to launch in Dreamweaver by default.  See Apple Support below for details.

https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/choose-an-app-to-open-a-file-on-mac-mh35597/mac

To preview in browser from Dreamweaver, right-click on open document tab to show context menu.

Select Open in Browser.

Hope that helps.
