Question

FTP connection fails

I've had multiple websites hosted by Dot5 Hosting for over 10 years and have suddenly (September 2018) developed a problem making an FTP connection to their server using Dreamweaver.  I've spoken with Dot5 support and learned that they have made some changes.  I've followed their directions and still cannot connect.  I did successfully connect and upload files using FileZilla but that is very awkward compared to uploading/updating through Dreamweaver.  Dot5 says it must be a DW problem.  I can no longer see the "More Options" dropdown menu in the Site Management/Servers window so I cannot change from FTP to Passive FTP.  Does anyone have suggestions?

This might not work for you, but it seems to have solved all of my connectivity problems with Dreamweaver. In your Dreamweaver preferences window, choose the Site tab. Set your FTP connection to disconnect after 1 minute idle. The reasoning is that Adobe's handshake, if held too long, can give the impression of being an intruder. Like I said, it might not work for you, and Adobe denies there is a problem, but it worked really well for me.

Thanks.  I did that just now but still won’t let me connect.  Maybe it will if I shut down completely and try again.

Is Dot5 using SFTP now?

Which version of DW do you have?
