Going From Contribute To Dreamweaver?

I don't know any coding and that's why I've always used Contribute (Ver 6.5) but it doesn't work on my newer Win 7 computer. I heard that DW has a split view I can use very much like Contribute. Will I be able to successfully use that?

I got an older version of DW, Creative Suite 3 web premium to try out, but it won't work on the Win 7 machine, so what is the version I'll be needing?

Is there an older version of DW or Creative Suite I could just buy, and not do the subscription?

    No.

Legacy Creative Suite is no longer sold, supported or updated.  It's all by subscription now.

If you have a paid subscription to Creative Cloud, you have access to older versions of DW going back to CS6.  However trial users do not have that option.

Also, how do I get in to that split view?

Go to Window > Toolbars > Document.  See screenshots below.

    Click On SPLIT

CS3 is 11 year old software.   Why don't you get a free 7 day trial of Creative Cloud and see if you can work with it ?   The current version is Dreamweaver CC 2018.2

Free Dreamweaver | Download Adobe Dreamweaver CC full version

OK I'll check it out Nancy! But is there an older version of DW or Creative Suite I could just buy, and not do the subscription?

Also, how do I get in to that split view? Is there a tutorial for using the split view? Am I using the right term for that?
