Has the Forum been hacked?

Hi All it is me, (Paula Ziecina)

Since reporting a spam posting in the Muse forum, and receiving a notification that I have been mentioned in the 'Back Room', (spam reports) I have been unable to log-in to the forum, and all my postings since joining the forum have been deleted.

Can someone please check and find out what is happening. Maybe I have been 'listed' as the spammer?

Thank you,

Paula

    Hi Madison,

Now everyone is back at work I have been able to talk with one of our database engineers, who has worked with the jive forum software. He has explained to me how this would have happened, and stated that 'fixing the problem' will depend on the database back-up schedule, and archiving of such, (I probably know more than most on this now ).

Briefly, he has said that posting in any discussion that I have participated in, that now has posts missing, should not affect restoring any deleted posts, or points, (back-ups permitting). Can you confirm this, or would you prefer that I still refrain from posting in such discussions until this is resolved?

    Thanks

    Paula

Hi again Paula, thanks for providing these examples- this helped the Jive engineer investigate the issue further. It appears our deactivate action kicked off a Jive delete action without our knowledge or it was done as a mistake click on our end- they can't tell which it is. So there were in fact pieces of content deleted. And I'm afraid I have to be the bearer of even worse news- we cannot restore this content as it was already removed from the database (as you mentioned you were familiar with). I can't apologize enough for this. I have reminded all moderators to be extra careful when deactivating. We've also talked to Jive about getting better insight into who performed moderation activities (this was already on our wishlist, but this example has made it even more high priority).

Are there any particular threads you were hoping to restore? Jive has told me that we can try and find them on our staging environment and then at least copy/paste the content back onto our live site.

I've also removed your name from the spam reports thread.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can do. Look out for something in the mail- think you deserve an apology for having to go through this.

    Best,

    Madison

To the Forum, I have to confess I personally am initially unable, as Paula was, to "laugh" this mistake off. I have always valued her contributions to this forum and most especially her contributions of the last couple of months. That they are gone and her standing in the community has been so unfairly affected, is a travesty not just for her but ALL of us who use this forum.

To Paula, I say that while I understand and respect your decision to enter a self-imposed exile, I shall miss your generosity in sharing your experience and wisdom and the opportunity to learn from both.

I am not sure why it was deactivated in the first place. I could see the messages in the forum admin tool but you should be able to see them.

    Hi Scott,

There has been a lot of unintended posts deleted and many other people have lost points also, due to the deactivation of my account.

I have looked at a number of discussions i have participated in over the last few months, and because my posts have been deleted, so has any posts that responded to my posts, and any post that responded to the person(s) who responded to the post that originally responded to me.

This also means that any points awarded to those people by marking as helpfull, or likes, has also likely to have been removed. Other discussions that have linked to something i have posted or that has commented on a post i have made now have brocken links, or refer to something that no longer exists, making the comments nonsense.

I have found where my current point total comes from also, these are from posts marked as correct. Thankfully those posts have not been deleted, otherwise the problems caused by the deactivation would have been even worse. Though anything i posted after such no longer exists, with further questions by the OP now apearing to go unanswed.

This has occured across a number of forums, that relate to the requirements for building a web site.

I think i will take a few months off just to let Preran calm down when he returns from vacation.

Checking your profile, your ACP badge, points and questions are back. I guess it  takes awhile to take.

Passed your message to the Back Room.  Hope it's a misunderstanding.

    Thank you Gene.

Thinking about it, it looks like whomever deleted the spam I reported has marked me as the spammer.

Pity if all the posts and discussions I have made over the years have been permanently deleted though, still I am laughing as it does have a 'funny side to it'
