How can I make a dropdown menu cover the whole screen?

I have an image. When you hover over it, a dropdown menu appears. The dropdown menu is only the same size as the image, though. When the dropdown menu comes up, I want its background to cover the entire screen. How can I achieve this?

It's really hard to say what you would need to do without seeing your work in progress.

Could you post a link to your page and give us a little more in-depth explanation of what it is you're trying to achieve?

Why on earth would you want a hover effect when touch screen do not recognise the action.
