Question

How to Turn off Pop-ups

I'm learning Dreamweaver in college, and everytime I load the program, and everytime I'm doing anything, another UNRELATED popup takes up part of my screen and my attention. I already do not enjoy this sluggish, clunky software, but this is making me dislike Dreamweaver even more. I looked around, and I've found people looking for a way to turn this off dating back almost a decade with no luck. Anyone have any solution?

You haven't used Dreamweaver for long.  The Contextual Feature Tips go away automatically after you read the tip and perform the suggested action.  Once it completes its first cycle, you won't see the Tips anymore unless you hit the RESET button in your Preferences Panel.  See screenshot.

Dreamweaver is not the least bit sluggish on my system.   See System Requirements below.

    • Try closing non-essential apps & background processes.
    • Ensure that your local site is defined and resides on your computer's primary hard drive. C:\MySite.
    • If this is school-owned or lab computer, contact your school's IT dept for assistance.

    Hope that helps.

These are particulary annoying in the acadmeic setting. I can understand why Adobe has them and I imagine they are not as annoying for most people but for students they really REALLY suck. I end up seeing the same pop up for features I don't want to learn about right now thanks. It's gotten to the point that I stopped actualy reading and just try to close out of them as quickly as possiable. It's probably due to using dream weaver on diffrent machines so I end up tripping the same event that cuases whatever pop up multiple times. But even on my perosnal machine I feel like I find myself seeing the same pop up muliple times. I agree with OP and that it would be very nice to just have the OPTION to disable said feature. It feels very MS Word's Clippy in terms of "helpfulness".

I understand how frustrating that can be. Here are a few suggestions that might help:

    1. Disable Code Hints: Some users have found that disabling code hints can reduce the number of pop-ups. You can do this by going to `Edit > Preferences > Code Hints` and unchecking the options.
    2. Contextual Feature Tips: These tips are designed to help new users, but they can be annoying. They should go away after you read and perform the suggested actions. If they persist, you might need to reset your preferences.
    3. Local Environment Warning: If you're seeing a "Local Environment Warning" pop-up, you can try commenting out or removing the specific line in the `js/theme.js` file.
    4. System Performance: Ensure that your system meets the minimum requirements for Dreamweaver and try closing non-essential apps and background processes.

I hope one of these solutions works for you! If not, you might want to reach out to your school's IT department for further assistance.
