Question

How would i retrieve all my Dreamweaver CS6 work in case my computer dies?

I had a bit of a scare yesterday. All of a sudden, my older but dependable Mac Book went black without any reason.

All went well, and it worked again beautifully.

But it got me thinking about what to do with all my Dreamweaver work if something really happens?

Can someone help me? Thank you so very much.

Anita

    @cbcorgwebmaster,

    Assuming all your important files on your remote server, you could recover them with a dedicated S/FTP client like FREE FileZilla or Cyberduck.

    Thank you, everybody! I actually use the Time machine and a back up drive. So, i guess i am okay that way, just wanted to check.
    However,  thanks so much for the tip on Backblaze, i didn't know that one.

    Thanks,

    Anita

    Get yourself a decent NAS and let it work in the background to distribute to the cloud.

    Wappler is the DMXzone-made Dreamweaver replacement and includes the best of their powerful extensions, as well as much more!

    I'll second Ben's comment.  I use a NAS with Time Machine to backup my Mac over the network.

    Hi @cbcorgwebmaster,

    Use a dedicated file backup & recover service to regularly copy important data and work files to the cloud.  It's not a question IF your computer HD will fail, it's a matter of when.  If you haven't already, make copies of your local site folder and site definition settings to externals and dedicated cloud backups.  Don't bother copying your old program files because you cannot migrate them.  When your old computer dies, new software will need to be installed on all new equipment and OS.  CS6 will NOT run on Catalina or Big Sur.  It's too old.

    Backblaze is very affordable and non-invasive.  I've been using it for many years.

    Good luck!

    Does Backblaze now offer the option of backing up only the folders you designate or does it still only backup the whole of the local hard drive. I didnt go with it because I didnt want it backing up all of my folders, only those which I specifically required it to do so?

    Currently I use Google drive but I've personally found it to be really slow and a PITA.

    @osgood_,

    Perhaps you had a different plan.  There's an Exclusions tab in Backblaze Preferences where you add or delete folders from the list.  It has always been there for me on Vista, Win8 and Win10.  I've been using Backblaze a long time 🙂

    "But it got me thinking about what to do with all my Dreamweaver work if something really happens?"

    If you were to have a total hard drive failure, like every other file on your computer, your Dreamweaver work would simply cease to exist without some kind of backup

    As a cheap and easy bare minimum, you could duplicate your files regularly to a portable flash drive that you keep on your car keys.

    The best method, would be to use some kind of automated, off-site, cloud backup system. Companies can do this themselves with networked drives between locations, or subscribe to services like www.backblaze.com

    Havent you got some kind of back up system like an external hard drive, cloud storage, git hub etc. You should always back up your work files in a couple of different places so its recoverable if anything happens to your main source of storage. Worst possible case if you have access to back up files is you only have to define the sites again on the new computer with a new install of Dreamweaver. Some files will be available via ftp if you have active websites but its always good management to back up your files.

    I've moved this from the Using the Community forum (which is the forum for issues using the forums) to the Dreamweaver forum so that proper help can be offered.
