I'm looking for advise on an education plan

Hello!  Okay, so I've started learning code with the Khan Academy.  I've also created my first demo site with the provided tutorials. Haven't gotten into the Javascript yet. Soon though!  Also been using Muse for years and now feel it's limits.

What I'd like to do now is choose an online curriculum path that would help me develop mastery of HTML, CSS, and Javascript. My ultimate goal is to then progress to a deeper understanding and capability to integrate and fully utilize Business Catalyst.

I've looked at Treehouse and Lynda.com.

  • I like that Treehouse lists very clearly a progression of courses to mastery.
  • I like that Lynda.com has soOOoo much to choose from including some BC courses.
  • I'm concerned that Treehouse eventually steers the learner towards backend programing languages.
  • I'm concerned that Lynda.com has so much content and doesn't seem to offer a definitive path of progression towards mastering the Adobe products I'm interested in. I'm also concerned that some of content may be dated.

My questions

  1. Is there anyone out there that would be willing to play online course counselor for me and suggest an online course path that would lead to competency and certification?
  2. Which online program should I consider?
  3. Is there one I may have missed?
  4. Am I going to have to look at a combination of online programs?

Thank you in advance for your time. I look forward to any suggestions!

Joe

David Powers is a long time contributor to this forum.  He is very knowledgeable about all things Dreamweaver and in particular, PHP code.  David writes books and teaches on Lynda.com.   I would steer you in that direction.  Yes, there's a long list of courses on Lynda but you can filter them to what you're working on at the moment.    With respect to Dreamweaver, focus on courses designed for CC.  Creative Suite is mostly outdated.

Thank you Nancy for your suggestions. I will give them serious consideration.

Concerns:

I see a lot of offerings for PHP

Is this something I will need to learn?

I don't think it plays nice with BC

I also see a lot of stuff (even cc related) that seems 1-3 yrs+ old.  How relevant is that now?

It also bugs that I see a listing of intro to this or that only to find one a little further down the list that is "updated."

Also, is there a specific program or path that leads to any kind of recognizable certification?

Input welcome

I don't think Lynda.com offers certificates but they might.  You would need to check with them though.  As a freelancer, I've never once been asked to show certifications.  I suppose if I was teaching, it might be necessary to take certification exams.   But my client's don't care.  All they care about is whether I can do the work on time and on budget.

Without knowing more about your skills and intentions,  nobody here can guide you except in most general terms.

HTML5

CSS

    -  Responsive Layouts -- CSS Flexbox, CSS Grid and/or Frameworks

     - CSS3 Animation

JavaScript

Every project I work on contains PHP code.  If you want to build anything other than Business Catalyst sites, then yes, you should learn server-side programming (PHP & MySQL) at some point.  That would allow you to work with sites on WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, Laravel, CodeIgnitor and many other code frameworks.
