images and css not showing in live view

Before you tell me to search support, I've already done that and read the articles, tried the answers, and nothing worked.

I have the 18th build on an iMac, OS 10.13.6.

The web pages show correctly in Safari so the coding is ok. I've tried redoing the links to the style sheet and to the image in Dreamweaver, and it's still not showing them. When I click on the image link in code view, the correct image pops, but it's not showing in live. I changed the image from .gif to .png since that was also listed as a solution. It's totally ignoring the css.

I never had this problem in previous versions of Dreamweaver. Help I want to make corrections to the current site and not start all over from scratch, but I'm stumped.

No and no. I'm going to try to upload the new version to see if that helps.

I just tried starting a new file from scratch, inserted an image - using DW browse so I wouldn't screw the path or file name up - and the image doesn't show. The problem isn't with my old files, it might just be this version of DW with this version of the OS?

DW gets confused if you don't define a site as the first step: Define a site

Once the site is defined, re-link the images and it will likely start working correctly.

Maybe, maybe not.   This could be a simple path problem or code validation issues.  We would need to see your code. What's the URL to your online page?

What version of DW are you using?

Live View is a "mostly there" browser rendering engine. In older versions of the program, there was a lot missing that worked in real browsers but simply wouldn't work within DW's Live View interface especially when it came to advanced CSS settings.

Have you validated your code under File > Validate > Current Document or at http://validator.w3.org/nu and The W3C CSS Validation Service

DW will choke on code issues that the browsers happily plow right through without skipping a beat. Essentially, the browsers are better at guessing what was meant, when they run into html and css issues, than DW is.

Finally, could you share a link to your work in progress so we can see what's happening with our own browsers/DW versions?

Version =18.2.0.10165

I just tried validation. There are a few obsolete coding errors (haven't worked on these files for 2 years) which I will correct.

The original I'm trying to fix is chaya.us

thanks

Oops - the css has issues too. I will fix those and try again.
