Installed Dreamweaver in new PC; not connected?

Hello. I have three sites that I play around with from time-to-time. It's been awhile but since building a new PC system and having Dreamweaver recently installed I tried to do some editing to a site. However when I sent to the page online after "Save" and "Put" (Ctrl + Shift + U) I checked out to see if the changes applied and guess what? Yep, no changes I made applied . So I tried adjusting a few other pages and checked through Real-Time Preview - thinking at least I'd see changes there - but I got this:

I tried that in multiple browsers (Mozilla & Microsoft Edge) and got the exact same result. When I tried Real-Time Preview with Internet Explorer instead I got a really weird pop-up message about being the correct file...but the Browser and actual HTML file's there. Anyway here's what it said:

Any idea on why I'm unable to make adjustments applicable through my host? Or even shown via Real-Time Preview? Reminder this is all through a new PC and Dreamweaver was just installed onto this computer...so I wonder if the installation and/or connection may be an issue

Any help would be great.

Hi John,

Could you please share below information with us to know more about the issue:

1) What is the OS version and Dreamweaver version you are using

2) Was "real time preview " was working with these files earlier in DW

3) Is previewing the files in browser, working

  • right click on the HMTL file in Files panel
  • choose "open in browser"
  • verify the file opens up without any issues

Nancy -> You are going in the right direction because this was a NEW computer, NEW hard drive (which I never "knew" about making .ste files (beforehand), and NEW installation of DreamWeaver in. So I was kind of starting from scratch with nothing but a host account and a Dreamweaver installed. I did a lot of research and thanks to a link HERE I learned everything.

In summary, yes Nancy is correct. I had to re-connect my Dreamweaver to Host account through taking my 1.) FTP hostname 2.) Username 3.) Password 4.) each sites' Root Directory and basically link the two together again within my new PC - all done under "Manage Sites"

It took time and was irritating before each site was working again. One thing I learned is NEXT time I will attempt this option 2: create .ste files! It would have been much easier if I had done this before building new PC and cleaning out old one and wiping old hard drives. Basically under "Manage Sites" comes the option "Duplicate the currently selected site(s)" in which you can copy them, save them and then take them to new PC that has Dreamweaver installed. There, I assume, you'd install just as they are and instantly re-connect to your host. A LOT easier!!!

So Nancy, if all I wrote seems correct, feel free to throw your thoughts. If not, clear things up...I'd hate others to read this and learn wrongly.    

Kratika -> I have Windows 10, DW 2017.5 Release and 9878 Build

               -> Now that Dreamweaver and Host are reconnected on my new PC, each Real-time preview works EXCEPT internet explorer...with that option I still get that little box pop-up (see original post). That one I can't explain, as it did work with old PC months ago.

               -> I did open actual file in Internet explorer and since the files are now working it does open just fine; but NOT in Real-time preview. Odd.

Yes.  Defining your sites is an important step.  And having STE files to import makes it much faster.

If Real-Time Preview is giving you grief, right click on tab and select Open in Browser.
