Is Google analytics a secure hit counter on a web site?

I am using Dreamweaver CC 2015.

Is Google analytics a secure hit counter on a web site?

I have read that it can compromise the security of a web site.

I currently use StatCounter but have updated my client's web site and I think he might want all the extra information offered by Google.

Before I follow this option I want to check what current informed thinking is on hit counters and any possible security issues.

Google Analytics shouldn't really be looked at as a hit counter, in fact, hits shouldn't be what you are counting at all.  If I am a single visitor who visits your site 100x and that is all, I am 100 hits, but it would be much better for your site to have 100 visitors than 100 hits and also to understand what those visitors are doing.

In short, Google Analytics will not compromise any site, if it did, there is a good chunk of the internet that would be affected by this, but I would do some research on web analytics and understand what you are offering your client before they start asking questions you do not know the answers to.
