Links in frames are only opened via a new tab

Hi there,
I would like to create a simple homepage with frames using Dreamweaver. The basic creation works without any problems. My problem is when I want to open a new link in a frame, a new browser tab opens. For a better understanding, you can find a small example here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1df3wwkLdQtDuVLoPF9Uk4xJjQPhXzOTt/view?usp=sharing. Start the index.html file. My goal is that every link in the frame: "frame_down" will be opened.

Does anyone have any tip for me as to where the problem is?

thank you

@Stefan22403196m1cm,

My advice is to stay away from FRAMES and FRAMESETS like the plague.  Frames are an evil throwback to 1990's web design and have no place on the modern web.

  • Frames are deprecated & unsupported by HTML5 web standards.
    https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Element/frame
  • Frames are unsupported by mobile & tablet devices as well as some browsers.
  • Frames are not recommended for accessibility reasons.
  • Framed sites cannot be bookmarked properly.
  • Framed sites are confusing for users as well as developers.

There are much better ways to build websites that do not rely on Frames.

Hi there,

Thanks for the numerous help. I have now taken the solution via templates. For my purpose, this is the easiest and fastest way to achieve this.

The short answer is that "id" doesn't exist in frames. It should be "name=" where you have "id=".  This just shows again why frames are a bad idea to Nancy's point.  Another option altogether is to consider a CMS (ie: Wordpress), or if you prefer to stay out of the code (Wix, Squarespace).
