Question

links not updating correctly with a dreamweaver cs5 template

I have been using a template for years to update pages in multilevel subdirectories.  It has always kept the proper notation to maintain links.  With the latest modification all the links are broken.  For example a menu line in the dwt file is

<li><a href="index.htm">Home</a></li>                 originally produced a line of code for a page several directories down as

<li><a href="../../../../index.htm">Home</a></li>     now the line in the updated page becomes

          <li><a href="index.htm">Home</a></li>

Any idea why this occurred and how it can be fixed?

Has your template become corrupted or disconnected in some way from your child pages?

Are Templates stored in the Templates folder of your site root?

The links are in the non edible region. The file is located in the templates folder.  How can I tell if the folder is corrupted? I created a new page from the template and same problem occurs.

Start with Restore Preferences:  That usually fixes corruptions in the configuration folder.

    CS5 -  http://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/kb/restore-preferences-dreamweaver-cs4-cs5.html

    CS6 & CC - https://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/kb/restore-preferences-dreamweaver-cs6-cc.html

Failing that,  validate code in your Template and fix reported errors.

    HTML - http://validator.w3.org/

    HTML5 - https://validator.w3.org/nu/
