Live View in Dreamweaver CC not functioning

I have Dreamweaver CC 2021 running and using xanpp local server with Apache and MySQL running. When I try to use Live View all I get is a blank/white window. When I preview the same file in a browser it displays properly.

Any solutions appreciated!

    I'm out of ideas at this point.

    Hopefully someone else has some something for you.

    I suppose it could be a corrupt installation of XAMPP. I've never heard of that before but I guess it could be possible.

    Ready for this? After futzing around for hours on this I discovered that the .htaccess files in my various site folders in htdocs folders seem to have been causing the problem. When I arased them all sites worked perfectly. The strange thing is that they have been there forever. I wonder if Adobe made an update to Dreamweaver that causes this rendering failure in Live View on .php files when .htaccess files are present.

    Anyway thanks for taking the time to help out! I appreciate it.

    i must admit that i use Dreamweaver exclusively as a code editor, and as a project manager.
    seeing this thread, i tested both, the preview in a browser, and the live view mode... and neither of them work

    xampp is active, works well independently... but when everything starts from Dreamweaver, nothing works... build 15425, W10 up to date, both French

    Did you setup xampp apache to run as a service? You have to run xampp as an administrator to do that.....

    It won't even run this:

    <!doctype html>
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta charset="utf-8">
    <title>Untitled Document</title>
    </head>

    <body>
    <p>This is a test....</p>
    </body>
    </html>

    Shows nicely as a preciew in browser but will not display in Live View window.

    Hmmm. It shouldn't matter if the server is running, you should see something, whether it's "hey your server's not running" or a garbled page of text because your PHP isn't being parsed, something other than a blank page should be there...

    It might be worth checking if you're you running the local server as Administrator, not just from an admin account.

    Right click the desktop icon for XAMPP.
    Right click XAMPP Control panel from the pop up menu
    Choose Run as Administrator
    Turn on Apache and MySQL

    If it still isn't working after that, I would try restoring preferences. That tends to clear up a lot of odd behavior in the program:

    Yep tried both of those things....no change. I even uninstalled Dreamweaver and reinstalled it and it still misbehaves.Works fine on my other computer so obviously it is some internal maching setting that I don't know how to get to.

    Hi Jon thanks but the prolem is not when I preview in a browser. That works fine. The problem is when I go to Live View within Dreamweaver. The window where it would normally display just goes to all white with nothing in it.

    Ah, sorry, looks like I failed the reading comprehension test.

    In that case it's fairly likely to be a code error that the browsers don't care about, but DW doesn't know how to handle. Usually a missing end tag for <title> will do what you describe. Browsers are much better than live view at working through errors.

    Run the page through the validation tool under File > Validate > Current Document (W3C) or go to http://validator.w3.org/nu to get a listing of any errors in your code.

    Cleaning up any errors should bring DW back in line with expectations.

    I'm guessing you're accidentally using Adobe's Real Time Preview instead of a static browser preview. It doesn't play nice with local server setups. If you're seeing an odd IP address in your browsr's address bar when you go to preview your page, you'll need to change a setting...

    1. Go to Edit > Preferences
    2. Scroll down in the left bar and click Real Time Preview
    3. Put a check in the box at the top for "Default to Static Browser Preview"

    ...that, and making sure the server is running, should be all you need to get preview back.
