Live View Text Editing Issues

Hi,

I just installed Dreamweaver 21.3, 15593 Build on a Windows 11 Pro 22H2 machine with 64 GB of RAM (36 GB free as of this writing). I have not made any settings changes: everything is at the defaults set by the Adobe installer. I installed it because of its 'Live View' editing abilities. I won't bore you with all of the hoops I have already jumped through. I've duplicated the bug with a default HTML 5 doc created within Dreamweaver which has a single p element with some lorem ipsum text within. I entered the text (absent single quote marks):

'there ffore'

within the lorem ipsum text.

I then placed the cursor between the two 'f 'characters and proceeded to press the following keys:

Backspace (first 'f' was deleted which was expected)

Backspace ('e' was deleted! not expected)

Delete (remaining 'f' was deleted! not expected)

Delete ('o' was deleted. I guess? expected)

Backspace ('r' was deleted! not expected)

Hopefully the attached video will make it all crystal clear.

As is obvious, this essentially means that for the purposes of editing text, the Live View is broken (which is hard to believe for such a simple and common use case as basic text editing). I know that I can edit within the design view, but that won't address that I want to have the ability to edit in Live View reliably for this workflow.

Thank you.

Perhaps you should be looking for a more inclusive IDE.

Wappler is the DMXzone-made Dreamweaver replacement and includes the best of their powerful extensions, as well as much more!

Also check the code for validation errors.  DW does erratic things when it can't resolve code errors.

Window > Results > Validation click on > to check document. Repeat as needed...

Since I can't reproduce it on my end, it's probably not a repeatable bug.  Otherwise other users would have reported the same issue.

Do you experience this behavior in any other apps or just Dreamweaver?

You might try Restoring Preferences.

Thanks Nancy. It was in Ins (the default). It was a brand new install on a machine which had previously never had any Adobe software on it other than Adobe Reader. I run Visual Studio 2022, Visual Studio Code, IntelliJ, Word, Excel, and many others. and have never had a problem with editing in any of them.

Like I said, I can't reproduce it.  Does it happen in Design View?

I prefer to toggle from Live to Design view when editing text (Ctrl + Shift + F11).  It's quicker for working with text and code.

Live view is better when working with layouts.

That said, I can't tell from your screen capture if the keyboard is in OVR or INS mode.  See screenshot.  The default is usually INSERT mode.
