Question

local site with IIS and DW CS6

I have configured IIS (Windows 11 24H2) as server for a local site of mine, let's say "mysite", with the following properties:

Site: mySite,

Application pool: mySite (added automatically),

Physical path: D:\mySite,

Type: http,

Host name: mySite,

Port: 8080,

IP: All unassigned,

With those settings I can browse the site starting from the home page at http://mySite:8080/

Then, I've tried to set the site in Dreamweaver CS6 too, with the following properties:

Site name: mySite,

Local folder: D:\mySite,

Server name: IIS,

Connect using: Local/Network,

Server folder: D:\mySite,

web URL: http://mySite:8080/

However, when I try to test a page in Dreamweaver with "Preview in browser" feature, the browser gets the local file (file:///D:/mySite/folder/subfolder/TMP1g3szin.htm), instead of the web address (http://mySite:8080/folder/subfolder/TMP1g3szin.htm )

(the temp file name is because I use the option "Preview using temporary file". I have also tried with the option disabled, and got the same results)

Am I missing something?

Confession 1:  I don't use IIS

Confession 2: Dreamweaver ver, 2021.4 (not CS6)

I have an Apache local testing server called Wamp.  Other options are Xampp or Mamp.  It's essentially the same for all of them. See link & screenshots below.

With this set-up, saving files in DW automatically saves them to my local testing server.

sorry for I'm late. I had many tests to do, because it's a new machine with a clean install to perform...

so, with those settings of yours, when you preview a page in DW:

1. What's the URL in browser's address bar

2. If you follow a link in the page does the browser follows the link? and what the second pege's URL is?

3. Can you follow a link from the second page to a third one, and so on?

Real-Time Preview doesn't play nice with local testing servers.  Disable it.  Use Static Browser Preview instead.

OPTION 1: Right-click on open document tab and select Open in Browser > Select your favorite browser.

OPTION 2: Permanently disable Real-Time Preview.

Go to Edit > Preferences > Real-Time Preview.  See screenshot.

Hope that helps.

Ensure that the testing server is correctly set up and that Dreamweaver is automatically pushing files to the testing server. This can be done in the site setup under the "Servers" tab.

Wappler is the DMXzone-made Dreamweaver replacement and includes the best of their powerful extensions, as well as much more!
