For a beginner to HTML and Dreamweaver: can anyone recommend some tutorials, videos or user guides for using Bootstrap in Dreamweaver?

Get Bootstrap is the official documentation site for versions 2 through 5.

    https://getbootstrap.com/docs/5.0/getting-started/introduction/

If you already know HTML, all you need to use Bootstrap is an understanding of the 12-box grid and various Bootstrap classes.

    6 + 6   (2 equal-width columns that = 12)

    3 + 3 + 3 + 3  (4 equal-width columns that = 12)

    4 + 6 + 2  (3 un-equal-width columns that = 12)

    and so on...

Despite what some naysayers think, Bootstrap is not hard to learn and it will cut your production time in half.

That much is becoming clear to me. I would like to appreciate Bootstrap and if I did, I might well  use it. But I think I need to know a lot more about HTML before I can go there. The benefit would also have to outweight the learning investment. I only manage 3 pages and once they are updated, the most I will be doing is updating and tweaking, with maybe an occasional revamp. I don't plan on doing it for anyone else.

I have a 5 page website that is populated with a database that contains over 1,000 products.  So that 5 page site actually supports closer to 1,500 product summary and detail pages.   Whether I'm building 5 pages or 20 pages, I still use Bootstrap for layout and other interactive elements. Use whatever works for you.

    Thank you for the links.

The Dreamweaver User Guide explains how to setup a new BStrap page, and there are links that give useful info about columns etc. but that's as far as it seems to go. Once I insert a component, where do I go from there? How do I set attributes like color, outline, bahaviours etc?

I think I'd like to figure out DW\BS for now before I look at anything else, like SASS (at this stage I have no clue what that involves. And I do not want to subscribe to a course of tutorials.

I'll dig a bit deeper into the actual Bootstrap site - Maybe I'll find something there.

If you go to the actual Bootstrap website it lists all the css utility classes that set attributes like margin, padding, color, etc which you apply to the code itself.

Bootstrap is a framework that offers a limited number of options out of the box, beyond that you have to apply your own css options like adding different colors, margin, padding etc in a seperate css stylesheet linked to your page AFTER the Bootstrap default css file. This has the effect of over-riding the Bootstrap default css.

If youre using a framework then the browser inspector tools could become your best friend. If you select a component while you have the inspector open it will provide some guidance as to what Bootstrap css attributes have been applied, which could be useful if you want to change the default css.

As you already know l personally think this is an ass backwards bloated approach when building a modern website which Bootstrap is not yet capable of doing as it lacks the latest techniques like css grid.

If you intend to work eventually within a team then Bootstrap is something you should learn to suffer as most likely you will be forced to use it for reasons not associated with good web development. If you intend to work as an individual, have no desire to work within a team, have a passion for creating non bloated streamlined solutions with some individual imagination, then l cant think of a  much worse solution
