Hi forum members!

On this webpage I have a movie which should automatically start at loading of the page. It does, but it only when the movie in 'in sight' and because the movie is not on top of the page, it's never 'in sight'. If you scroll down and then reload te page it does. But of course that is not the purpose!!!

So how can it be that the movie always automatically starts???

He Jon, thanks, I didn't know. That explains the aloe vera (which has a sound), which I fixed now by changing the settings in Safari preferences.

Do you have any idea how to change it in my site to make it autoplay? Because the 'funny' thing is that the movie does load when it is in sight (do you know what I mean?)


I think that's just the way Safari works now, with autoplay not starting the video until it's "on screen".

Safari in iOS was changed to act that way, the second link I posted above mentions it specifically. To me, the first link talking about MacOS Safari (which is actually newer info that refers back to the iOS article) seems to imply that the desktop version now does the same thing, though it doesn't come right out and say it.

I don't have an updated enough Mac to test it though, sorry.

Most of the first page of results, when you do a search for autoplay video, isn't informing developers how to use autoplay correctly, but giving our viewers information on how to stop it from happening. That's very telling in my opinion.

Because of that, I generally steer clear of autoplaying videos at all.

It works fine for me on Win10 Firefox.

Which browser(s) are you having issues with?

It correctly autoplays here in Chrome, Opera and IE on Windows 7.

I turned off Autoplay in Firefox a while back, for a couple reasons: first, to more closely resemble a mobile browser, and also to kill the annoying autoplaying of videos on news websites. I forget how to turn it back on.

If you're having issues in mobile browsers, that's normal. Autoplay is disabled by default in a lot of mobile browsers. Many will also push the video to its own application. It won't play in the background of a webpage in those browsers.

I'm using Safari.

If I look in FIREFOX ....

EVISSI :: Natural Cactus Water - movie doesn't start

EVISSI :: Pure Coconut Water  - start

EVISSI :: Pure Watermelon Juice  - start

If I look in SAFARI ....

None of them loads when not 'in sight'

when 'in sight' ...

Right now on your first "doesn't work" link, you have "autostart" instead of "autoplay"
